Birthday Reviews!

Hm, I don't think that was a Bluey PS1 game you saw.  Bluey came out in 2017 and I don't think there's been a Bluey video game yet, although there's rumors they're making one.

I didn't think Bluey was on DVD yet, but after a quick search, looks like it is!

For your convienence, here's some Bluey episodes you should watch on YouTube:

Sleepover

Baby Race

And here's a clip from Fairytale with one of the cool 80s references:

Re-Do '02

2002 seemed like a pretty monumental year for gaming.  I didn't think I'd like Metroid Prime since I don't do FPS games, but I sure loved it.  I liked Wind Waker's cel shaded graphics even when everyone else didn't.  Kingdom Hearts' Disney/Square crossover idea was unheard of, and Ratchet and Clank was one of the best 3-D platformers of that generation.  No disrespect to Mega Man Legends, but Ratchet and Clank was what a 3D Mega Man game should've been.  2002 also was the year one of my top five favorite games of all time was released:  Animal Crossing for GameCube!

Thanks.  Have you ever watched Bluey?  If you have Disney+, you should give it a try.  Even though it's a kids' show, they deal with a lot of adult issues like miscarrages and such.  I sometimes forget it's a kids' show because it really feels more like an adult parenting show that kids can still enjoy.

One of my favorite episodes is "Sleepover."  In it, Bluey's bratty younger cousin Muffin comes over to spend the night, but she's so sleep deprived that she goes bat shit crazy.  That's the episode that has my favorite line: "Coconuts have water in them!"  Muffin is one of my favorite characters.

Another episode I like is "Fairytale."  Lots of great 80s references in that one.

TV shows and movies usually don't make me want to cry, especially cartoons, but one episode of Bluey almost did.  It's called "Baby Race."  I'm convinced that episode was made for the parents, not the kids. If you don't have Disney+, you might be able to check these out on YouTube as well.

Other good episodes include Unicourse, BBQ, Hammerbarn, Barky Boats, and more.  My favorite characters are Unicourse, Muffin, and Bluey's little sister Bingo.  They have the best lines.  Can you tell what I'm trying to make my next podcast subject to be?

The Week in Aliens

I love Invader ZIM.  Everything that comes out of GIR's mouth is hilarious.  I have the DVD box set that comes in the box shaped like ZIM's house.  It even has the episodes that originally didn't make it on Nick's second season until much later.

I had the opportunity to review Cassette Beasts.  I turned it down because I've got too much on my plate right now.

I've been mostly playing games for review.  Notable ones include Sea of Stars, Rune Factory 3 Special, and F-Zero 99.  I asked for two games for my birithday: Kirby's Return to Dreamland Deluxe and Samba de Amigo: Party Central.  We'll see if I get them.

2001 Revisited

2001 was a little rough at times for me.  That's when I stopped writing for the newspaper (not by choice), and there was some family issues that I won't go into (nothing really bad and it's all good now though).

I do remember playing a lot of Zelda Oracle of Ages/Seasons that summer, and Klonoa 2 is still one of my favorite PS2 games.  The launch of the GameCube was also great, and I enjoyed playing Luigi's Mansion, Super Monkey Ball, and Super Smash Bros. Melee by the end of the year.

This Week's Gundams

I remember being pleasantly surprised by Quiz and Dragons, too.

God Hand was made by the same folks who made Okami, and that studio would eventually become Platinum.

The Year 2000: Memories and Wish Lists

I reviewed Chrono Cross back when I was writing for the newspaper.  Even though it's billed as a sequel to Chrono Trigger, it's actually a spin off of Radical Dreamers.  Radical Dreamers was a text adventure that was only available on the Super Nintendo satellite service in Japan.  I've always wanted to play it.  You can on the remastered version, but I haven't gotten around to getting it yet.   But that's why Chrono Cross has so little to do with Chrono Trigger.  I kind of wish they would've made Chrono Cross its own thing, and not tied with any other game.  Because even though it's nowhere near as good as Chrono Trigger, it's still a decent game on its own.  Although the battle system is just a cleverly disguised card game.  It had great music and graphics, too.  There is an RPG that came out around the Switch's launch called I am Setsuna that really plays more like a Chrono Trigger sequel.  And with a few tweaks, it would've made a good side story or something.

Good video game villains make the best characters to love to hate.  So here's some of mine:

Kefka from Final Fantasy 6

GlaDOS from Portal

Dr. Wily from Mega Man

Bowser from the Mario games

Tron Bonne and the Servebots (and the rest of the Bonne family really) from Mega Man Legends

Well the forklift game isn't very fun.  But thanks for reading!
