Well, growing up in England is where I get the beer part from and er, well that doesn't really explain my love for gastronomy. Suffice it to say that I do love beer and food of all kinds. :)

I thought it was something that Japanese business men slept in when travelling or so Seinfeld led me to believe. :D
This is a great article. Unfortunately the 3 they recommend in the $300 to $500 section are actually between $400 and $450. The good news is that they all come with a phono cartridge so you don't need to buy that separately.
All 3 are completely manual, no auto start or stop. It's all you. My preference would be the Rega but the Pro-ject table looks good and comes with an Ortofon cartridge. I've had many cartridges from Ortofon and they are known for their sound.
You may be able to get a better price on them if you look around but that is definitely where I'd start.
Soundwise Vinyl > CD >>>>>>> MP3. Even the best quality digital files have most of the life from the original performance sucked right out of them.
A good vinyl pressing of a properly recorded performance will always come out on top in blind testing.
I remember having people over who thought that CDs were perfect. so I put the same album in my $1000 CD player and my $500 turntable and flipped back and forth. They went on and on about how much better the CD was during the demo oblivious to the fact that what they thought was the CD was actually vinyl.
Yeah and then looking at that particular Dolly performance it seems almost phoned in. No sense of expression or emotion. She looks like she didn't want to be there.
I really like Jack's version.
I read some idiot on Youtube saying that a man singing it makes it about a man asking a woman not to take his man. When someone tells a story, does the character's gender change depending on whether the raconteur is male or female? I don't think so but even if it does, who cares?
It's easy enough to prove. You've got access to a turntable right? Find the single, change the speed to 33 1/3 and play it,
I'm still at the Becel Cluster of Turds Bevelle Cloister of Trials and I'm trying to work up the will to go through that irritating section so that I can get on with killing me some Sin.
Yeah if someone had played that for me and not told me is was Dolly's version slowed down to 33 1/3 I would have thought it was some guy I'd never heard of . It's frikkin' eerie. If all her stuff sounds that good slowed down I need to buy it and then figure out how to reduce the speed by 25%. LOL
And the Ministry of Silly Walks honours (spelled the proper way) the US on this joyful occasion.
