Death Is Fun - Livin' It Up In Lordran

Posted on 12/12/2011 at 03:46 PM | Filed Under Blogs

It's still a game I need to play. Demon's Souls is still looking at me, asking when I'm going to come around and actually beat it. I tell it that there is a line for my affections, but then it gets all huffy and threatens to destroy me - making me suffer the fate of a thousand deaths.

Typical.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance Was Canceled Before Platinum Games Took Over Development

It kinda makes you wonder what kind of game this would have been had Platinum not picked it up.

The Last of Us Officially Revealed at VGAs

This was the highlight of the VGAs to me. I'm glad that Naughty Dog is moving over to an original IP at this point.

Metal Gear Solid Rising Now Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

I'm taking the 'wait and see' approach with this game. The original Metal Gear Solid for the PSOne was the highlight of the franchise for me and though this game looks very different and I'm a fan of Platinum Games I haven't seen enough at this point to convince me that this is something to be excited for.

Why did I wait? (Tales of Vesperia)

I hate to say this, but I haven't played ANY of the Tales games. Not because I don't want to, but because I wouldn't know where to begin. What would you recommend, Angelo?

Darth Kill's 1Up Rant

I had no idea that you could get banned for something as simple as that at 1up. That being said, game sites need to realize that when you give the community a way of speaking up they will - even if you don't like what they have to say. We're glad to have you here Darth, welcome home ;)

The Marketing Genius of Nintendo of America

My point wasn't that we weren't going to get this game the ENTIRE time, it was that Nintendo was planning on bringing it to us even when they said they had no plans. That, coupled with Operation Rainfall helped to give attention to this game. Nintendo effectively used Operation Rainfall to better market the game without having to spend a single dollar.

Vita Rant

Allow me to offer a counterpoint to the memory sticks. I'll admit that the pricing is kind of crazy, but if it ends up being true that digital version of Vita games could be up to 40% cheaper than their physical counterparts, then the pricing makes more sense, especially since you'll only really need a card if you want to download games.

That considered, I don't think that Sony is trying to screw anyone and I personally am still planning a day one purchase of the machine. I'll pick up a memory stick somewhere down the line since I won't need it for simple game saves.

Bridging the Gap

I wouldn't say that core games like change. They may say they want change, but in reality most "core" games have remained mostly the same in terms of content since the PS2/Xbox.Gamecube days. I think they're more afraid of change than anyone else.

Bridging the Gap

Concerning motion controls, it's obvious they aren't going away. I fully expect that the next Xbox will come standard with some version of the Kinnect built in with better technology. With that being standard, it'll be much more commonplace for developers to use the device more often in games - not as a singular controlling mechanism necessarily, but as a supplementary control device more along the lines of how it will be used in Mass Effect 3 and Ghost Recon.

And I'd side with Nick on the fun factor - plenty of people enjoyed Kirby's Epic Yarn, including myself. It may be a little harsh to call all "hardcore" gamers elitist, but I think that anyone who refers to themselves as hardcore and others as casual is being elitist. I don't like using the terms because it separates people when we should be embracing all types of gamers.
