Silicon Knights Cuts Staff by 75%

Posted on 11/01/2011 at 05:45 PM | Filed Under News

While I don't know enough about the folks around Silicon Knights to dislike someone like Dennis Dyack the same way Stanton does, I have to say I feel like the issue here has more to do with leadership than staff. That's my opinion, at least. I hope those who lost their jobs find something soon, as always. Who knows, maybe they'll all get together, form their own studio, and outshine Silicon Knights in every way. It's happened before, hasn't it?

Can it do single-console co-op? Edit: Yes it can. I should have read before asking that...

inFAMOUS 2: Festival of Blood Review

Posted on 10/27/2011 at 07:09 PM | Filed Under Review

I'm not a fan of InFAMOUS's gameplay all that much, but I think the setting and story across the two games is pretty interesting. I definitely can say I'm impressed with what's been described here. Tossing out the morality system in this case, adding new powers, and creating a short story sounds like some nice content. Seems like it might also make a cheap way for people to explore how InFAMOUS 2 plays without buying the entire game at that.

Sony Gives You the Chance to Get the Vita a Week Early

Sounds like Sony's hoping these week-early adopters will spread some interest by word of mouth, no?

Replay of the Kirby's Return to Dream Land PlayBit

All right everybody, expect the replays to be uploaded sometime to this early morning. I'll update the headline when they're available. It will take some time.

Monday Night PlayBit: Delayed!

Posted on 10/25/2011 at 06:56 PM | Filed Under Feature

Hooray, I snagged a copy today! Being the obstinate crab that I am, I've also emailed Nintendo from my civilian gmail account about this mess. Expect some type of editorial rant on PB & Jason when that goes up whenever at some late hour tomorrow. I'm generally unhappy when a miscommunication like this occurs because it frustrates me and you, and generally every early software purchaser, as well as retailers who have well-informed customers.

Disney Universe Review

Posted on 10/25/2011 at 06:50 PM | Filed Under Review

Your review definitely matches up with my E3 impressions here, Nick. The game was, by no means perfect, but the stages had charm. I didn't really understand some of the choices for the lands, especially Alice in Wonderland. It's a fun game, but the gameplay, which felt fairly final at E3, seemed pretty trivial, with challenges that were difficult more in execution due to weak design, and not inherent, intended difficulty.

Regardless, the game definitely was more enjoyable than Ratchet & Clank: All4One, and the worlds should be more familiar as well. Those looking for a family game on the 360 and PS3 probably wouldn't go terribly wrong with this one. Wii owners might want to wait until we have a review posted for Kirby's Return to Dreamland before making this decision, though.

X-Men Destiny Review

I think Peter Molyneux intentionally lies and mislabels what his games can do. Rarely an event goes by where he doesn't promise whatever he's displaying is doing what it's doing in amazing form while it's being shown off, like Milo's first introduction, where he first said everything Milo did was automatic, and then later it was revealed there was a puppetmaster behind the scenes. That's a lie, and a complete one that he knew.

I haven't followed much about Dyack, but now I'm curious to hear what all he has to say. If he's anything like Peter Molyneux, I see that as very bad news.

Monday Night PlayBit: Delayed!

I constantly get frustrated by misleading release dates, but Nintendo's track record in the recent past has been pretty solid. Even though this was releasing on a Monday instead of a Sunday, I really thought I'd see it in stores, but I suppose that's not the case. Oh well.
