Episode 39: Runaway Train

I don't know how much of that is in there. It's a long, long story all involving Nate's own choices of words before the show actually begain. >.>

Final Fantasy X Headed to the PS3, PS Vita

Oh, yeah, the prerendered stuff looked pretty. I meant the characters. I've think I've made people out of Lincoln Logs that look better than the overworld FF7 characters.

Sony Reveals Vita Launch Titles

Posted on 09/14/2011 at 04:20 PM | Filed Under News

Are there even 26 3DS games available right now? Maybe I'll count them later. To be fair, some of the things Sony mentioned in this group aren't really very video game-like. And a handful are ports. Still, that didn't stop Nintendo from making their early marquee titles ports.

I'll be doing some thinking about whether or not I want to buy a Vita in the next few months. The inclusion of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 in its library definitely helps. It would make me feel less inadequate for buying Ultimate MvC 3 after the relative misleads involving post-MvC3 content.

Final Fantasy X Headed to the PS3, PS Vita

They need to face the fact that Final Fantasy 7 was a very ugly game, Nick. It might have looked great at the time, and the cutscenes still look nice enough, but those blockheads in the game just would upconvert in such a pretty way.

But really, it's because the PS3 and Vita can't play PS2 games! Sony and others all have a chance to rerelease those PS2 games, where they just have downloadable PSX games. It's the perfect plan!

A Head Start to Nowhere

I get the feeling this kind of talk will make up the bulk of the upcoming podcast.

The most disappointing and disorienting thing about the games that use the second circle pad is that most of the games that will use it were games revealed alongside the actual handheld at E3 2010. We saw Resident Evil, Kingdom Hearts, and Metal Gear Solid at the console's unveiling, yet these games (which are still in development) are going to be the first batch to use this peripheral. That was nearly a year before the handheld's release. If developers and publishers wanted a second circle pad, why didn't they pressure Nintendo then, before the hardware was finalized and before the thing went into mass production?

Nintendo Conference Reveals New Games, Details, Release Dates

I'm going to talk more about Bravely Default in the podcast Nick, Chessa, and I record tonight, but to sum it up, I think Square Enix is on the verge of financial ruin. Why else name it "Bravely Default"? The key is to remember why Final Fantasy was given its name.

Square Enix will release Bravely Default in the US, but they probably don't expect to profit from it. I think they plan to default.... bravely.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Demo Playthrough Part 1 [Xbox 360 Footage]

Posted on 09/12/2011 at 08:16 PM | Filed Under Feature

I saw this demo at E3, and it was one of the games I wanted to write a preview for, but never found the time.

A lot of the things that were shown and discussed looked and sounded great, but a lot of things were also hinted at and suggested that made me wonder if the game will play as well or as seamless as said in the demo.

Also, I'll be a little bit mean and say that I was't very impressed by the fights with dragons. It could be because of the level of strength of the NPC used, I can't recall how "powerful" he was in relation to the enemy, but the fight(s) were pretty quick and simple.

I won't be buying Skyrim, because it's just not a genre I enjoy, but I will admit the game seemed to have a lot of potential. Whether or not it will live up to that, I suppose we'll have to wait to find out.

Issue 55: Disappointment

Swimming was definitely nothing to write home about before in Monster Hunter tri/3. If I did care much that it was getting a "G" version, I would not be happy to hear swimming is returning.

55 times, even. I'm sure that guy knows what he's doing well enough. I'll bet it'd be easier with commercial breaks. All lot of these have absolutely no cuts...

Also... Last week's was better. Check it out.

Famitsu Confirms Second Circle Pad Peripheral for 3DS

Posted on 09/07/2011 at 02:02 PM | Filed Under News

For the record, if you saw my tweet, you know I didn't post about this last night. Why not? Take a look a the picture there, and you'll see some digitization issues right around that new right circle pad that aren't anywhere else in the picture. Considering that there don't seem to be any other pictures of this page of Famitsu, considering the magazine isn't actually available at retail, and considering that the twitter account that leaked this didn't have past Famitsu pictures, I didn't (and still don't) see it as a credible source.

Anyway, I would have chosen to post the news story as a rumor, going so far as to show evidence it is a true story as well as whatever counter-evidence is out there, but I didn't want to have us, as PixlBit, report something as a rumor that so many other websites had chosen to report as solid fact, even when their own sources only suggested rumors and even provided inconsistent mock-up pictures as proof.

Anyway, I don't know how far along this story has progressed, I don't know if Famitsu is out now, and I don't know if there are other pictures of this available or not. I do know I'm not satisfied with what's here, in regard to whether this is an authentic peripheral. I'd like to see someone post some other picture of this magazine, at least, if not more. Right now, I think we've got a serious case of hundreds of websites reporting on one story based on a messy picture that's based on an iffy rumor, then all cross-referencing each other to add credibility.
