Adam Sessler Leaves G4

Posted on 04/26/2012 at 12:40 PM | Filed Under News

I think this is really good news actually.

Sessler was rather typecast while he was with G4, and I personally can't stand G4 in general for many of the same reasons I can't stand IGN anymore.  I have no doubt he'll say involved in the games industry, but parting ways with G4 will really give him an opportunity to better himself. He's an intelligent, knowledgeable man who can do better than that.

Here's hoping he hits the ground running, drops the spaz act, and starts something bigger and better than G4 that shines a better light on gamers in general.

Why IGNs continued success is bad for gamers.

Sure thing boss! Check out their review of Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Endless Frontier Vs Kat Bailey's over at 1up.

I've personally played this game as well. Make sure you read 'em both.  It's very interesting to compare the two.

Well, I can't argue one person's perception over another's, but my wife was actually my chief supporter while I wrote this, and she did agree.  She also isn't really a "hardcore" gamer, although she does play video games quite often.  That's not definitive by any means, but it just goes to show that some people do see it, although it may be more subtle to some than it is to others.  I also have a theory that we've become so used to gaming media catered to males that we're actually conditioned to it, but that's just conjecture on my part.

Maybe bias is the wrong word.  It kind of conjures up images of prejudice, which isn't what I mean.  I just mean they cater to males exclusively.  I think that atitude is what is detramental to us as a whole, and I just wish another gaming website that better represents us would be the go to destination for common folk looking for gaming information.

Yeah, it is opinion based, like I said originally.  Their recent work has actually showed some steps toward improvement in some of the ways you just mentioned.  I do place a lot of importance on sourcing, and I really feel it would have been increadibly easy to throw the guys at Wired a bone for their hard work.  They didn't do that.

They have, in the past, also defended their mission statement and choice of wording.  They stand by it very firmly, and even went so far as to compare themselves to magazines like Maxim. Unfortunately, I can't reference a specific source for this.  It was on a podcast they published over a year ago, and I was unable to find it when I was researching this entry.

This is all well and good for a general website, but my biggest beef is that IGN is such a publicly regarded source for video games, and that bias casts us in a bad light.  It's very much in line with the recent editorials we've done about women in gaming. I really don't think it's fair to have a website with such a public and obvious bias be the go to source for gamers, and those looking for gaming related information.

I just wanted to drop this here, since it's related.  If you're concerned about this issue, you might want to check it out.

Atlus Saves Dragon's Crown From Oblivion

You know, Vita is beginning to tempt me.  Not that I'd abandon my 3DS, but I'm starting to see some interesting titles show up.  There's that Class of Heroes 2 Kick Starter Victor Ireland had going on as well.

Episode 63: DLC Dos & Don'ts

Someone did, but it was in a fighting game context.  This pricing structure is infecting RPGs as well, and I don't like it.  Somehow, it makes more sense to me in a fighting game, not a Tales games where stuff like this has always been in game.

To clarify, that's what people are currently paying for it in Japan. I don't know if it crossed the ocean to the US as I can't check PSN, but that's a CRAZY price point no matter what country you live in.

*Update* I haz found info:

http://www.justpushstart.com/2012/03/tales-of-graces-f-gets-bunch-of-dlcs-including-cheats/

Apparently they did cut the price for the US release to 1.99.  Still though, it's not a costume pack, it's a single costume at a time.  That's not something I'd pay that much for!

I really really want to argue with you on the COD nonsense, but the truth of it is, it's the consumer's fault that Activision is able to get away with this stuff. Honestly, who in their right mind forks over money for a product not knowing at all what it is?  I still can't get my head around that.  Yes, it's true that Activision clearly stated they would get stuff valued at over the price of admission, but who sets that price?  Not the consumer.  For all they know it could be just some of the worst maps, and worthless crap, like skins for their guns or a bandanna for their soldier priced at 5 bucks.  I really don't want this to become standard practice and I will not participate in it if it does.  I rarely pre-order games as it is because I fear getting screwed, but this seems far more risky than even that!

Speaking of crazy prices, now come nobody mentioned Namco, especially after Tales of Graces f?  5 bucks for a single costume for a single character?  Seriously?  What are they smoking over there!

Darksiders II Delayed

Posted on 04/20/2012 at 02:27 PM | Filed Under News

Darksiders is a pretty quick romp.  I think I completed just about everything the game had to offer in about 20 hours.  It was rather satisfying as well.  Mark Hammel's voice acting was spot on, as always, and the whole thing is a light blend of Zelda and God of War.  It really wouldn't take too much time to cross that one off your list.
