We sure do stab and shoot a lot of people in games, don't we?

The least interesting part of Minecraft is the combat. The enemies are too simplistic. I would rather have the option to set up traps or some other kind of defenses.

I want to develop a game based around shoplifting. The only violence will come from store owners or security.

Didn't know you were into virtual pinball games.  Pinball Arcade looks pretty classy.

Ico is a good choice, but I played the shit out of it back in the day already.  I'm not that out of touch :D

So Mario vs. DK looks similar to the classic Gameboy version. Why is it so pastel colored though? I know Mario games are supposed to be light hearted/family friendly, but it's a little much.  Unfinished Swan looks intriguing. May have to go towards the top of the list.

Flipping your pillow over to the Nintendo side is always a sure-fire way to get away from the usual blood and guts.  And you jest, but a lot of these games require more brain cells than your average dudebro manshoot games.

Nice. A lot of games I forgot about. My brain was tired last night. I assume that there is some kind of projectile warfare in Beyond Earth, though.Yes, I'm being that anal about it. Might have to give Infamous a second thought and replace it with Prototype 2 or some other open world superhero game.

Rayman, of course!  I've actually never played one.

So many cop shows, most of them bad and ignorant of real police procedure.  Too self righteous too.

Yeah, too bad about Mirror's Edge. It's like, stick to a theme guys.

I want to replay this game to give it another chance (since hype is no longer a factor), but this just reminds me how undisciplined I felt the mechanics were.  The melee system is..there is this sense of inertia to it that it could have done without. Last of Us's barehanded combat suffered from similar clumsiness and stuttering rhythm. The gunplay is how you say it is, and the guns don't feel powerful or satisfying. Combat needed to be more arcadey in terms of physics and responsiveness, imo.

The platforming or whatever you call it is probably the best executed aspect, but it doesn't have that death defying, tight rope walk feeling that some of the Tomb Raider and Prince of Persia games had. I never once felt a sense of danger or virtual vertigo.  Maybe that's not what they were going for, but I couldn't help but feel it's absence.

Personally, I don't think story telling is in the league of Raiders of the Lost Ark, Die Hard, Terminator, etc. It's TV level, a little better than something that Kevin Sorbo or Bruce Campbell would star in back in the 90s. It's a case of "good for a video game." But I don't play action games for story, so whatever.

So yeah, I don't know. It's an "almost there" type of game for me, something I want to like but, honestly, it misses me.

R.I.P. Konami

I remember when EA put out good, challenging games back in the Genesis days. And Konami was arguably THE Japanese studio for hardcore games on consoles during the 8 and 16 bit eras.

To quote JC Dention "What a shame"
