Cary's Favorite Mech Games

Posted on 06/11/2016 at 06:44 PM | Filed Under Blogs

Well I like to think of Rocket Slime as a cross between Mario 2 (because you can pick up stuff), and Zelda.  If you still have it, try it again!  I know you can figure it out.

Yeah, most old mech games were just fancy tank simulators.  There was one BattleTank game on the SNES that was made by David Crane (creator of Pitfill).  That's all I know!

Like I said, games like Steambot Chronicles and Tail Concerto are hard to find, I hear.  But if you do find them, let me know, and I hope you get to play them!

Pikmin 3 for Me

I played the first Pikmin game and a bit of the second one and didn't really like them, so I never bothered with the third one.

Pick-ups Backlog #3: Time Quackers

I can't remember which one, but one of the home version Time Crisis games has mini-games based on other Namco arcade gun shooters.  One is Shoot Away, which is very old, and the other is Quick & Crash, which is a newer game where you had to shoot targets and break a real mug!  I wonder how they got that to work?

I love the DuckTales game.  It's pretty easy to beat.  I beat it tons of times as a kid, so I know you'll be able to beat it, too!

Did you know that Alan Young, the voice of Scrooge McDuck, passed away recently? :(

Right now I'm playing Kirby: Planet Robobot, which I just got today!

I've never been in an earthquake before!

I saw that new X-Men: A Popsicle move, too!  I wish they would wear those "Hello, My Name Is..." name tags so I would know who they were. Otherwise I have to give them my own names like Metal Wing Guy, Fast Man, and Purple Lady With Pink Bubblegum Weapon Things.  I remembered her from Marvel vs. Capcom 2, where most of my Marvel knowledge comes from.  They should make a movie about that!

There was a big error in the movie, though.  When Fast Man was playing Ms. Pac-Man, he turned around and the Pac-Man death sound effect played.  Well, he was playing Ms. Pac-Man, and that sound effect is not even in that game!  Also, the maze they showed him playing was a hacked maze, not the original.  Yeah I'm probably the only one who picks up on stuff like that. :)

OST Spotlight--Kirby Super Star

Posted on 06/10/2016 at 04:03 PM | Filed Under Blogs

Good timing on the Kirby-related blog, considering what was released today.

Kirby Super Star is still one of the best Kirby games out there.  Even today's Kirby main titles haven't deviated too much from Kirby Super Star and Kirby's Adventure.

Kirby Super Star is also a very special game to me, and I have many great memories associated with it.  I played it a lot in two-player mode with my brother Jeff when he was very little, and we still talk about it to this day.  Now that Jeff is grown, he plays a lot of mature titles like Call of Duty and Elite: Dangerous, but if I got out Super Star again, he'd gladly play it with me still!

The Great Cave Offensive was one of our favorite modes in the game, and we loved how some of the treasures even made reference to other Nintendo titles (you can get the Triforce, Screw Attack, etc.).  I really like how Smash Bros. on the Wii U has a Great Cave Offensive stage, and I like the music that goes with it.  It's a combination of the tune you posted as well as another familiar Great Cave Offensive song.

I'm disappointed you didn't include the iconic Gourmet Race on your list.  Super Star was that song's first appearance!  If I were in high school band again, I would've loved to play that song.  Especially that bass line in the middle.  "Bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, BUM-BUM-BUUUMMM!"  I played Bass Trombone so that's probably the part I'd have.

I just posted a sort-of Kirby-related blog, too, so please go check it out when you can!

I really enjoyed this on PS2.  I may get the remake on PS3 at some point.

What is that PSTV thing all about?  Is it any good?

Ratchet and Clank

The first two main Ratchet & Clank sequels on the PS2 were great.  Probably some of the best 3-D platforming of that generation.  No disrespect to Mega Man Legends, but Ratchet & Clank is what a 3-D Mega Man game should've been. I loved the hidden Insomniac office levels in R&C 2 and 3.  Have you seen those?
