Anyway, with the Bat-Mite thing I'm less asking about Bat-Mite specifically and more wondering why comic book fans get so rattled by other media interpretations when so many comic book interpretations themselves seem to fuck with the characters and universes so much anyway. If they can pretend something does or doesn't exist in prestige one-shots etc., I don't see why just saying movies and cartoons have their own universes related to the character would be such a huge deal.
I guess because they want THEIR version of the characters/universes to be the ones seen by mainstream audiences, but I've always found it a bit petty how comic books are taken SO seriously when we don't expect more than 10% of "based on true events" works to actually be true.
