Spoooky Reviews!

The cool thing about music is how vinyl records are making a comeback.  Last weekend I went over to a friend's house and listened to new records and it was amazing.

Yeah I like the designs in Skylanders, too.  The toys just seem to scream out, "Play with me!"

Please do!  I hope you come back and at least read the Skylanders review, as I put more effort into that series' reviews since it's a perfect fit for the site I write for.

RETROspective: Creepy Video Game Franchises

There was a cutesy chibi Japan-only version of Splatterhouse that came out on the Famicom.  Too bad we didn't get that one.

My Top 11 Octoberween Games for 2015 #03: Guwange

There was a third Pocky and Rocky game on the GBA called Pocky and Rocky with Becky.  Natsume just recenlty ported it to Wii U Virtual Console.  Not sure if the first two are on Wii VC, but you might want to check.  Also, when the Wii was the main Nintendo home console, a company was going to do remakes of Taito games, but Taito declined so that company went and made their games anyway without the Taito licenses.  So if you ever see a game called Heavenly Guardian, that was supposed to originally be a new Pocky and Rocky game.  I know a thing or two about Pocky and Rocky.

2007 Was Gaming Heaven

Posted on 10/28/2015 at 07:34 AM | Filed Under Blogs

2007 was a rough year for me because that was the first full year at the job I hated (and I still work there).  I'm surprised I even lasted that first year.  Family life was rough, too.  Nothing really bad or dramatic, but deifinitely more stressful.

Like I said earlier, 2007 was the year I got an Xbox 360.  There were enough games on it I wanted to play by then, with promise of more to come.  Pac-Man: CE was the final straw that made me cave in.  The 360 ended up being my favorite console of last generation, and I still play it today!

I named my Game of the Year in 2007 Super Mario Galaxy, but I really wanted to give it to Portal.  But, it was part of the Orange Box, which I didn't want to pay full price for since the other two games on it I had no interest in.  But once the game got down to 20 bucks in early 2008, I got it.  I wish I would've gotten it earlier, as Portal and its sequel ended up being one of my favorite games of the last console generation.  I REALLY like Portal games!

I first heard about Gwange at 1up.  I'd rather play the more kid-friendly version: KiKiKaiKai (Pocky & Rocky). :)

Halo Day, But I'm Ok

Luigi's Mansion is really fun.  The controls take some getting used to, but once you do, it becomes second nature.  I even like how short it is.  It encouraged me to go back and play it again right away to get a higher score.

2007 was the year I got an Xbox 360.  Pac-Man: Championship Edition beckoned.  I THINK Super Mario Galaxy came out that year as well.  And if I'm not mistaken, so did Portal and the Orange Box.  If not 2007, it was definitely 2008.  Help me out, here.

Zesteria, Corpse Party, SWTOR, etc...

Tales games are fun.  Try Legendia, that's my favorite one.

I've been hearing a lot about Undertale.  If this keeps up, I forsee it making an appearance on consoles as well.  Looks very Earthbound-ey.

Ninja Gaiden Review

Posted on 10/27/2015 at 07:30 AM | Filed Under Review

I remember renting thsi game as a kid and dying a lot in it.  The cut-scenes were a really big deal back then because a lot of NES games prior didn't have anything like that.  You might've gotten a glimpse of a story at the beginning of the game and at the end, but that was it.  The rest was up to your imagination and whatever was written in the instruction booklet.  But Ninja Gaiden helped changed all that. It may seem silly, but that was one of its most important contributions to gaming.
