Episode 253: Shaq Owns Some Weird S---!

Posted on 05/25/2023 at 07:26 AM | Filed Under Feature

I have two ideas for game sequels, so I hope you can make the time to read both please.

My first idea actually came to me in a dream.  I dreamed I was playing a sequel to Ristar.  Ristar was a 2-D platformer SEGA Genesis game, and I actually liked it better than Sonic.  Anyway, in my dream, I was playing a sequel to it that was also a 16-bit 2-D platformer.  It was called Ristar and Comette.  It played a lot like the first game, except now two people could play at the same time.  Player 2 was Comette, Ristar's sister who had a pink heart face instead of a star face like Ristar.  She also had a ponytail that would trail behind her like a comet's tail.  Both characters played the same, though.  When I woke up, I thought it was cool that my brain came up with that idea while I was sleeping, but as I thought about it, since you bounce around a lot in that game, it probably wouldn't make for a very good two player experience.

I really wish Capcom would make my idea for another sequel I thought of.  I was really upset when Capcom cancelled Mega Man Legends 3 on the 3DS.  But what I really want is a sequel to The Misadventures of Tron Bonne.  I really liked that one.  It was a 3-D action game that also mixed puzzles, exploration, and even crew management.  But most people just liked the action stages so I'd just focus on those for the sequel.  In the new game, you could play as either Tron Bonne or her rival from the first game, Denise the policewoman.  In the story, they'd have to reluctantly team up to stop a bigger threat, and two could play at the same time.  I know Capcom would never do this, instead all they want to do is make games that make them lots of money, like Resident Evil and Monster Hunter.  Well I have needs too, you know. :)

By the way, I just posted a podcast episode of my own where my brother Jeff and I review the Mario movie and I talk about my trip to Super Nintendo World.  Please give it a listen if you have a chance.

Well if anything, I like the way you think.  Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to marry a lady ninja.  Shouldn't be too hard, right?  Wish me luck. :)

La Dolce Vita. . . Mario?

Makes me think of the old Mario Bros. commercial from Atari where they sing to the tune of the old "Car 54 Where Are You?" TV show.

I'm not scared of ninja ladies.  In fact, I wouldn't mind having one around the house (hehe).  But I am scared of people breaking into my house!

Tears of the Kingdom is a lot like Breath of the Wild, but you get to build stuff now.  So I've been calling it The Legend of Zelda: Nuts & Bolts.  I like it, but it has all the things I didn't like about Breath of the Wild, too.  I'm ready for a more traditional Zelda game.

And my blog about Super Nintendo World is up!

About that ninja dream, I wasn't really scared for myself, but for the rest of my family.  Just wanted to make sure they were ok.  And the ghost tour/hunt wasn't really scary either.  Or maybe I'm just tough. :)

Right now I'm playing mostly the new Zelda game.  But I also got to review Puzzle Bobble Everybubble, so I'm happy about that.

Currently my Super Nintendo World articles are being posted at GamerDad.com.  When they are all posted I'll make a blog here with links to them.

Between the Super Nintendo in the early half of the 90s, and the PlayStation in the later half, the 90s sure were a great time for gaming!  I was also reviewing games for The Dallas Morning News in 1998, so that was fun.  Looking back on release dates for 1998, there sure were some monumental games released then.  You have deserving GOTY titles ike Ocarina of Time and Banjo-Kazooie.  And let's not forget honorable mentions like Spyro the Dragon and Brave Fencer Musashi.  But for me, my Game of the Year for 1998 would've been Klonoa: Door to Phantomile on the PlayStation, which was released in March 1998 in the US.  From the colorful worlds to the made up language and the sad ending, Klonoa really made an impact on me!
