Man, I really do love the Game Boy Player. Always made me feel like I was playing the GBA Metroids on a console. Love it.

STAGE SELECT:
1) Levels/chapters/missions. These things are still around but I hate the focus many AAA games have on "Well, done with that mission, let's immediately talk about what you're going to do next." Like, let me have the victory and savor it for a SECOND. I get that you're busy and need to illustrate that about your character Spider-Man, but let ME have a break. Jesus. At least games like DmC still have missions that serve as actual starting/stopping points. I love being able to play games in small chunks is what I'm saying.
And I know there are points in games (like Spider-Man) where they say "Hey, screw around and do side missions for a while," but that brings me to my next point:
2) Not having a fucking checklist for all the side content that makes me brain feel obligated to complete things. I never once worried about getting all the heart containers in Zelda, I just wanted to BEAT THE GAME. That used to only mean getting through the story, but now I'll do that and have like 15% of the trophies and feel as if I didn't REALLY do anything.
Again, let me have a win!
3) Arcade sports titles. I don't give a shit about real life player stats, I just want to make my character CATCH ON FIRE. That's all I want from my sports games. Fire and cartoonish brutality. How does no one else making purchasing decisions seem to understand football is more fun that way?!
CAGE MATCH:
I like the rain theme of the name Downpour, so that I guess. Rain is cool.
SHOW RESPONSE:
I don't have much to add but thank you for making my part-time social media gig much more bearable to complete. Also, I kinda like the PS5 design, both controller and console, but I do see everyone's point about the router/modem thing. I choose to see a spaceship.
Also, I definitely saw a bikini when I first saw that controller, thanks to the placement of the blue light making it look like straps. Definitely prefer the custom designs, but I like the concept for that reason.
Looked up whether there was a game called Doom that was a parody of Doom and there is! Except there isn't! Cause Gloom isn't a parody, it's just a clone for the Amiga. Boo.
I beat the first two games in the PS4 collection and got a good bit of the way through 3. Ironically, I got stuck in the first Spyro game on PS4, which is funny since I've always heard Spyro is the easier franchise (granted, it's because I wasn't sure where to go, not cause I died).
I'm excited for this, too and I'm kind of hoping GameFly gives me Nitro Fueled in the mail soon. I think I have Control above it in my que for now, but I might change that. I could go for some pick-up-and-play stuff.
Huh ... thought it was a Zelda mashup, given the title.
The only thing I wouldn't recognize here is the book, and I don't like what that says about me. Well, I do recognize the name Pale Blue Dot and am familiar with Carl Sagan, but I don't really remember that cover.
Was that when he was making fun of Final Fantasy XV? I don't see that as elitist, personally. I thought it was kinda funny cause RPGs can take a while to get going. I think the gag of that (now-defunct) segment where he hams it up like he still can't figure out video games and picks on his more knowledgeable assistant is the elitist part, but I can understand if you like the game he was ripping on that you don't care for that bit.
I never really got into Springsteen albums, but his live show was amazing.
I wonder if there are good dancing songs that also have odd time signatures. Maybe "Play That Funky Music Whiteboy" is going in a whole lot of directions I simply do not hear.
A WINNER IS YOU
All great picks.
Conan is the only late night host I'm still subscribed to on YouTube. Also, I got to see Bruce Springsteen live for free with Max Weinberg drumming and Tom Morello on guitar. That's the concert I brag about going to the most. Was a little annoyed when we saw Slipknot and I couldn't really see Jay Weinberg (Max's son) playing drums. Also annoyed I'll never get to see Joey Jordison with them.
Didn't realize Wallace & Gromit was that old, but I loved watching the shorts on PBS as a kid and of course the movies.
I definitely played more NBA Jam than Doom in the 90s, but that's probably cause I was so young. I was disappointed when they tried bringing NBA Jam back but the reviews were mediocre. I miss arcade sports titles.
People praising Tool for their odd time signatures makes me realize how little music theory I know, cause to me their songs/riffs have always sounded pretty simple but I guess the stuff they're working into these songs is a lot more complex than I would think.
That's a hell of a title for a book, but sounds like an interesting read.
The NES Contra is probably my favorite cause it's the most accessible. I honestly did not realize Contra started as an arcade game, though I guess a lot of games did back then.
