My Top 11 Octoberween Game Titles for 2014 #07 – Ghostbusters: The Video Game

Posted on 10/11/2014 at 12:01 PM | Filed Under Blogs

This Ghostbusters video game is one of the best movie-based games ever made. Probably the closest thing we'll get to a Ghostbusters 3.

The attention to detail is great.  They even had a Q*bert machine in the second floor of the fire house (I wish it was playable).

I also like the kid's drawings on the first floor.  My favorite was one of Slimer that read "Slimer ate 50 hot dogs."

That's cool that you got to see the New York Public Library.  One of the areas that they made genuinely creepy was the children's section!  Especially when you hear the ghost children whispering about you!  Yikes!

Another cool thing is that the 360 version was developed by a game company called Terminal Reality, which is located just a few miles from my house!

Does it make me weird that my favorite Ghostbusters characters were Slimer and Janine?

Oh, and does anyone else remember Ecto-Cooler?  It was a Hi-C fruit drink that had Slimer on the box.  I drank a ton of that stuff as a kid.  It was nectar of the gods.

My favorite characters to use in Diddy Kong Racing were Bumper the Badger and Tiptup the Turtle.

DKR was a great game, but it was also the N64 game that caused me to get a PSOne, the first non-Nintendo console I ever owned.  You see, DKR was that year's big holiday N64 release, and while it was a good game, it wasn't good enough to carry the system through a holiday season.  The PSOne had much more promising games, so even though I couldn't afford it at the time (I was a poor college student), I bought a PSOne anyway.  One of the smartest purchases I ever made, as I was reviewing PSOne games left and right for a couple of newspapers after that.

I've never even messed with PlayStation Home.

Yeah I went on Soarin'.  It was pretty neat.  I'm sad that it replaced one of my childhood favorites: Kitchen Caberet, but the best part was that Patrick Warburton was the safety announcer for it.  I liked Star Tours better a long time ago when it didn't use 3-D.

I had fun watching my brother play Blood Dragon.  We both love 80's cheese, and he wasn't even alive then!

I'm busy reviewing a lot of games right now, like Cooking Mama 5 and Skylanders Trap Team.

That is a cool idea, but I think some people overthink the Zelda stories just a little bit.

It's amazing how some of the oldest rides are some of the best.

Just go during the off-seasons.  Plus, Epcot has wider walkways than the other parks, so it doesn't 'feel' as crowded.

All right, I've decided I'm going to be those girls' father and I'm going to give them a stern talking-to about going out to haunted houses late at night.

OK now I'm just being silly!

I'm not really that much into Harry Potter, but I did see the shop where you could get a wand made.  They'd probably make me a really ugly, weird wand anyway.  :)
