The Weekender 10/24/14 Edition

Posted on 10/24/2014 at 03:18 AM | Filed Under Blogs

The comments on IGN are certainly not as harsh as the review itself. I'll have to play it for myself. I'm a fanboy of the series, so a Platinum-developed game for $15 was gonna get me no matter the review scores. Jamison Miller on plus10damage gave a 6.5 review score which I think is about what it will end up being for me as well. It seems like a decent game for what it is with lots to be desired. They were up front the story would only be about 4-6 hours long, so it's not like I'm expecting the Okami of licensed games. Like I said though, we'll see how I feel when I play it. I may have been a bit too excited in my preview of it, but I think my expectations have been made more realistic.

And here's a guy showing you how to make mac n' cheese balls. you're welcome.

Gonna play me some Legend of Korra when I get the chance. Actually played some Hyrule Warriors today. It was fun.

I've mostly been watching football, but also Halloween-themed stuff on Netflix. The Nightmare on Elm Street series documentary Never Sleep Again was really interesting, I finally finished Evil Dead 2, chuckled a bit at the homosexual overtones of A Nightmare  on Elm Street 2, and fell asleep watching Cabin in the Woods, which I saw in theaters. And of course, I'll be watching the new Korra episode tomorrow! Can't wait!

Still need to read The Fault In Our Stars, still haven't had time.

I'm eating healthy again, but since all that means is keeping calories under 2000 and protein at 150+ so I can do my workouts, I still eat junk food like Little Ceasars and cookies cause I can.

And it's Homecoming week here at my university (Stephen F. Austin State University) so I'll be doing a remote broadcast during the tailgate before the game for the on-campus radio station I manage. I also have to make sure the Classic Hits playlist doesn't suck while we do that; gonna put in lots of classic rock and make sure "Purple Haze" gets in there since that's what our fan section at games is called (our colors are purple and white). Then we go to all alternative rock all the time for the rest of the semester at least, which I'm excited for.

Tomorrow, I'm covering the bonfire/pep rally for the on-campus newspaper I edit the opinions page for. Should be fun, even though I don't like country. They had an 80s cover band when I was a Freshman dammit! bring that back! At least I'll get to see a good local band called Rockett Queen our station plays at my favorite local bar (Maklemore's ... mmmm fried mac n cheese balls with orange sauce) Saturday night.

Then I get to write my editorial for the week, do my stats projects and work on my Master's thesis over the weekend! Oh, and I'm adopting a cat. I just made life so "fun" for myself.

RETROspective: History of a Hedgehog

Yeah, I know. I just find it interesting that I've seen Europeans claim having almost a reverse experience from those of U.S. for a certain time period in regards to Sega vs. Nintendo.

Great article by the way.

I actually really liked Colors for DS. I assume you're talking about the 3D version though? I wouldn't know about that one.

I believe I've heard Sega consoles actually outsold Nintendos by a good margin in Europe around the time of Master System and Genesis. Not sure.

I hope Sonic Boom is good and focuses on speed like it should. I root for the hedgehog.

Yeah, I think aside from maybe audiovisual quality, both versions were pretty much the same game.

Basically, it's like playing a hilarious stop-motion animated movie. It's a collect-a-thon platformer, but it's so inventive and engaging in both its gameplay and story I don't mind at all.

Guess what came in the mail today? #2

Pretty sure they're regulars at SGC and may even live in Dallas like the screwattack.com crew who puts the con on. I've only been 2013 and this year though. They were there both times.

NSonic79 said play II, so you're playing II, now hop to it! Like a bunny!

Kiddin', I have no idea. He does seem like he'd be the most knowledgeable source on this though.
