I played the arcade version of Minecraft Dungeons. It's neat because the machine actually dispenses real trading cards you can use!
I'm still playing The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles. I'm on the third case of the second set of chapters.
I've tried to stay away from the Switch online SNES games, because I would never get anything done if I got into them, but I did dive into Mario's PIcross since it was a SNES game I never played, being only in Japan before.

Oh man, now I REALLY hope you can listen to my podcast on my favorite video game music composers, because guess who's on the list? Yup, Yuzo Koshiro!
I didn't have a Genesis as a kid, because I was a SNES man. So there were very few Genesis games that really impressed me. But Streets of Rage 2 was one of the few Genesis titles that did! My favorite song from it is "Under Logic" which they play on the stage where you're on a baseball field. I liked the elevator under the pitcher's mound because it felt like it went super fast and went a million miles down. You should've been in the Earth's core by the end of it!
Some of my other favorite Yuzo Koshiro songs include the intro to Ys Book 2, stage 2 from Super Adventure Island, and pretty much everything in ActRaiser and Legacy of the Wizard. His game company, Ancient, also made an indie title on Xbox 360 called Protect Me Knight, and its 3DS sequel Gotta Protectors are both awesome.
Back to Streets of Rage, have you played Streets of Rage 4? The music's not as good, but it's still fun to play. I really liked it anyway. My favorite character used to be Blaze, but now it's DLC character Estel Aguirre, who is a police officer who looks like she ate a can of spinach!

When Ys first came to the US, it was on systems I couldn't play them on, because I didn't have them (TG-16, Master System, etc.). But I certainly had my eye on them!
I think the first Ys game I got was Ys 6 on the PS2. But for some reason, I couldn't get into it much. Not sure why, must've been timing. But then, later on I read it's one of the weaker entries in the series, so maybe that's why.
The first Ys game I beat was the remake of Ys 1 and 2 on the DS. A lot of people say it's a crappy port, but I loved it. Later on, XSEED ported a LOT of Ys games to the PSP, so I played all of those. Memories of Celceta is one of the few games I have for the Vita.
My favorite Ys game is Ys Seven. Love the music in that one. "Mother Earth Altego" is such a great overworld theme.
It's funny you said Ys 8 is like Gilligan's Island: The RPG. My brothers and I called it Jurassic Park: The JRPG. I liked the castaway theme in that one and Dana is a cool character because she has blue hair and beat Dogi in an armwrestling match! Wow!
Even though I liked Ys Seven and 8 more, I enjoyed Ys 9 way more than I thought I would. It almost would've been my GOTY last year, but lost to Pokemon Snap, and maybe would've tied with The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles. Can you guess who my favorite character in Ys 9 is?
Have you watched this video on the history of Falcom? It's really interesting.

Sounds like a good idea. There are so many video game soundtracks I like, that I could probably write about them all month, too. But I won't, because I've got enough on my plate. I'll have a couple of blogs up in February, and of course I'll read all the others and post comments if I have anything intelligent to say.
It's a litle bit different, but did you listen to my podcast on my top favorite video game composers? There's a link to my podcast on my most recent blog post here.

Yeah I thought about that cat in Goof Troop, too, while playing. Waffle (no s) is also the name of the dog main character in Tail Concerto. The cat in Inspector Waffles used to have a partner named Pancakes.
I hope I get to review Rune Factory 5. XSEED has always been pretty good about letting me review their games, ever since they've been around.
