E3 2010 Predictions

The staff sounds off on their hopes and expectations for the show.

Luke B's Predictions

Nintendo

While there will be a couple of known big reveals such as the Nintendo 3DS, Wii Vitality Sensor, Legend of Zelda and other prominent first party titles. I think that Nintendo will also showcase RPGs such as The Last Story, Xenoblade, and Tales of Graces (Namco Bandai, if you don't bring this to North America let either Nintendo, D3Publisher, or Xseed handle it!) hopefully with a release date for the holiday season or early 2011. I also believe that Nintendo will showcase a couple of big third party releases such as Epic Mickey and the supposed GoldenEye game from Activision.

Since Nintendo in recent years enjoy giving people glimpses into the future with hardware, I think that Nintendo will give a brief mention of the Wii's successor and even possibly show us Nintendo's online service that will work with the Nintendo 3DS and the next Nintendo home console.

Sony

With the impending release of Move, the vast majority of Sony's press conference will be focused on Sony's Move peripheral. I have a feeling that most of these titles will give people a feeling of déjà vu as these games will be similar to various Wii titles. Like usual, Sony will show a various montage of upcoming titles for the PS3 and PSP. Sony will also show launch titles for the Move and it will include games for casual players such as a Wii Sports and Wii Play ripoff to more traditional titles such as SOCOM or other shooter titles.

Since the PSP is practically a dead system in every region except Japan, Sony will reveal the successor to the PSP2. I have a feeling that PSP2 will support both physical and digital media considering that the PSP Go for all intents and purposes failed badly even in Japan.

Sony will also show off new features for the PlayStation Network for both the PS3 and PSP. While I'm not certain that Sony will announce the rumored premium PSN accounts, I highly doubt that Sony will charge players a monthly fee in order to play online if the premium PSN accounts are actually true.

Microsoft

Natal will be the centerpiece of Microsoft's conference and will showcase what Natal is capable of and some major titles that will be compatible with Natal. Similar to Move, there will be some déjà vu as some titles will be similar to some Wii titles and/or Eyetoy/PlayStation Eye. Just like every other company Microsoft will showcase some notable first party and third party titles for the 360.

Microsoft will also launch a small rebrand of the Xbox 360 just in time for Natal similar to what Sony did last year with the PS3 and PSP including a new box art header that will look like:

Finally Microsoft will announce new features for Xbox Live that will improve the online experience of Microsoft's online system and to further justify the subscription requirement in order to access most of the features for Xbox Live. Also I have a feeling that Microsoft will announce an application for Hulu for the Xbox 360 which will require Xbox Live Gold. Ever since Microsoft discontinued Xbox Live for the original Xbox, some of these enhancements will be due to the fact that Microsoft doesn't have to deal with limitations that were caused by the original Xbox anymore.

Most of these predictions seem pretty safe. Does no one want to predict anything wild? I heard a rumour that Microsoft and Mars Candy Company are teaming up to create a new type of gamer candy called X&M's, which they will be handing out free samples at the show. Soon after, they will be sued by XM Radio for trademark infringement.

I really like the idea of a MMOKatamari Damacy. It needs to happen. You can roll up stuff, become gigantic, then have little Katamari rolling up whatever random stuff is stuck to you. It would be utter chaos and fun.
