Digital Mystery Tour Episode 1: Attract Mode

Begin a musical journey with PixlBit!

Welcome to another excellent podcast from PixlBit! I guess once you've been bitten by the podcasting bug you feel this need to create interesting and entertaining shows, and with that in mind, I decided to spearhead Sound in Action: PixlBit's gaming music podcast!

We plan to bring this show to you every Sunday, with a rotating cast of hosts. The show will usually be built around a theme, with around 5 or so excellent musical pieces from the world of video games. For this first episode, I chose games that I loved to have running in the background at my independent video game store, Gamefellas. Enjoy this first episode, and you can contact myself or Angelo, my co-editor for requests and theme ideas. I can be reached at julian@pixlbit.com and Angelo at angelo@pixlbit.com.

This week's music:

00:00 Super Metroid-Samus Story Music

05:53 Wild Arms-Into the Wilderness

08:45 Final Fantasy Tactics-Bland Logo/Unit Introduction

14:06 Soul Edge-The Edge of Soul

19:07 Ico-Castle in the Mist

23:07 Rising Zan: Samurai Gunman-Johnny No More

Really need some feedback on this one, PixlBits. It's a short show, so even if you're not a podcast listener, please check it out and let us know what you think.

I listen to Video Game music regularly. I really enjoyed the sound track to the New Fire Emblem and recently wrote about the music of Lightning Returns. The new Call of Juarez: Gun Slinger has some really good tracks, folk music of course. Maybe I'll put up the music post I did on here.

I'm definitely going to be working some of the music from Fire Emblem in soon. Really loving that game, and some of the battle music really gets the blood pumping.

Wow, those are amazing songs. I'm seriously impressed. I'm suddenly much more interested in this game.

I love VG music too and try to do my own posts when I can. My favorite VG soundtracks are Final Fantasy 6, Chrono Cross, and Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2. But there are tons of great soundtracks! Looking forward to this podcast, keep it up, Julian.

Great podcast, Julian! I wasn't familiar with the second half of the list, so it was cool to hear those. Just the concept of a samurai gunman cracks me up lol. Really solid choices overall. I'm looking forward to what else I might hear on this podcast in the future.

I have plans for a bunch of game music blogs but I haven't gotten around to writing them yet, unfortunately, but every week (usually Wednesday) I post a song from OverClocked Remix. I've got a great one from Wild Arms that you'd appreciate, so I'll post that tomorrow. Be sure to check it out!

I definitely want to highlight some remixes in a couple of episodes, so I'll be sure to check out your blogs for inspiration. Thanks!

Tactics has a great attract mode, but it demos HORRIBLY. The first thing you encounter is the worst thing in the entire game. Two words:

L I T T L E   M O N E Y.

I can only imagine that worked better in Japanese where it's probably like... 3 characters or something.

The PSP translation is SO much better. It's like playing a different game. And they should make a new Tactics game with the art style of the new cutscenes they added.

Thank you.  I needed another reason to play super metroid.  I enjoyed it, and the length was perfect for my drive home.  I have been hoping for a reason to listen to more music from games.

Wish that I played wild arms, I really enjoyed that track.

gotta get some silent hill music in here. some of the best game music ever, and they have vocals. heck, sh4 has one of the best songs of the series even though it was the least well received. enjoyed this.
