This generation has gone on so long, people have forgotten what to expect from next gen!
THE ADVANTAGES OF BEING AN EARLY ADOPTER
I won’t lie—opening up a new console gets me excited in a way that I can’t fully articulate. It probably comes from working in gaming retail for so long and being there as the Dreamcast, PS2, Xbox, GameCube, and Xbox 360 came out. Even when it was a console I wasn’t personally excited about (I’m looking at you, Xbox 1, er, I mean original Xbox), it was always special to pull that new machine out of its box and fire it up for the first time.
Don't worry--I'll be gentle.
Even if you’ve never bought a system at launch before, I’m sure you’ve been there to buy a hot new game on day one at some point. There’s just something fun about being there at the beginning of the discussion as your friends are also experiencing the newness of it all. I haven’t picked up a system at launch since the GameCube, and I’m kind of itching to get in on one of the new consoles at launch this year. Yes, I’m very excited about these new machines, especially right now. As far as I’m concerned, the PS4 and the Xbox One are still pure potential. We haven’t seen enough of either machine to really comment on what we’re going to get this fall, and all of that negativity and knee-jerk rage seems misplaced and premature in my book.
At this point, I’m more excited and interested in the PS4, simply because I liked the message Sony had at their reveal more than the limited information given at the Xbox One event. However, that could all flip the other way after E3, or I could ultimately decide to play the waiting game on the next generation. Still, there’s something really cool about having something shiny and new hooked up to your TV, and I’ve had my 360 and PS3 long enough that I’m chomping at the bit for that feeling again.
