Memory Issues Plague PC Version of Black Ops

Though players everywhere are complaining of lag and stuttering issues, Treyarch still won't offer a definitive explanation.

The highly anticipated first-person shooter Call of Duty: Black Ops released yesterday, and though the game has been out for barely a day, gamers everywhere are complaining of several issues concerning the PC version.

Some of the problems players have encountered include stuttering cutscenes and severe lag during the single player campaign as well as multiplayer, even on computer units that technically should have no trouble running the game. A journalist from Kotaku has experienced the issues firsthand, and theorizes that the problem is most likely due to a memory leak. A user submitted photo may offer proof to the claim by showing the memory usage being consumed by the game standing at a hefty 85%.

Though fans and journalists alike have been reaching out to developer Treyarch for some possible solutions, there has been no definitive response from the company as of yet. Though they are still seeking a solution, David Vonderhaar of Treyarch released a statement to Call of Duty: Black Ops PC owners stating that "When people are upset, they want answers," and although he's "not totally sure what is going on yet," the studio, along with customer service, are working hard to collect as much information as possible to sort out legitimate game issues from irrelevant problems caused by something as simple as not meeting the system requirements to play the game.

Initially developed by Bandai Namco, it was later scrapped completely and development was shifted back to Retro Studios to start the project over. In the end, Retro has delivered a solid new entry in the series, but one that doesn’t totally capture what originally made the series so compelling.
