A system update will allow players to access the new features, though they are coming a bit later than promised.
Yesterday night, Nintendo announced that a new system update will be coming to the Nintendo 3DS on June 6. This update will provide players access to the eagerly awaited eShop as well as Internet browsing abilities.
The eShop will offer various content to players including updated classics in 3D, a portable Virtual Console that features Gameboy, Gameboy Color, Game Gear, and TurboGrafx-16 games, and brand new titles created specifically for the platform. Apps of some sort will likely also be offered, but Nintendo has made no formal announcement regarding their inclusion, though it will be a topic of discussion at their upcoming 3DS Developer's Conference.
At this time it's unknown what content will be available at the launch of the eShop.
