Resident Evil Revelations Release Date Announced

Those who pre-order at GameStop will be privy to a specially themed 3DS protective case.

Capcom announced today that Resident Evil Revelations will be on store shelves February 7, 2012. This game will be going back to its horror survival style gameplay the series was originally known for. You'll play as Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield and the story takes place between Resident Evil 4 and 5.

People who pre-order at Gamestop will get a 3DS protective case with the box art on the back of the top screen. Resident Evil Revelations will be released for the 3DS and will be the second Resident Evil game for the console, after Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D.

I'm pretty excited to see how this turns out. A wholly new Resident Evil game is definitely of interest, though I still don't know how I feel about it being on the 3DS. These are games I typically enjoy playing with Chessa, so it'll lose something in the transition to its new portable home.

I think this game will serve as a blue print as to how a Wii U Resident Evil game could be produced. The scanner and inventory all seem to be natural features for that Wii U controller and I'll be interested to see if an eventual Resident Evil 6 utilizes some of these features.

The footage I remember seeing at E3 was quite impressive. Too bad I'm afraid of games like these.

Initially developed by Bandai Namco, it was later scrapped completely and development was shifted back to Retro Studios to start the project over. In the end, Retro has delivered a solid new entry in the series, but one that doesn’t totally capture what originally made the series so compelling.
