Rayman Legends is a Real Thing

Wii U exclusive functionality shown off in leaked trailer

[UPDATE] Ubisoft has now acknowledged that Rayman Legends is indeed in development by Michel Ancel and his development team in Ubisoft's Montpellier studio.

"An internal video showing images of Rayman Origins' sequel has leaked over the Internet. This video was intended as a purely internal demonstrative video, and in NO way represents the final game, the final console or their features. This video was destined for internal production teams who often create game prototypes with work in progress development kits. Ubisoft confirms the development of Rayman Legends handled by Michel Ancel and his team in Montpellier."

The original story, which contains the leaked video, is below:

----------------------

It didn’t take long for another big game announcement to get leaked to the gaming public.  Shortly after news started to spread that Ubisoft had registered a domain for Rayman Legends, a trailer for the game was leaked – confirming that this is indeed a real thing and that the Wii U version will have some interesting added functionality.

The trailer is embedded above and shows off some impressive game footage before displaying the features custom to Nintendo’s next console.  In addition to using the tablet-esque controller to input some touch commands, the game will take advantage of the Wii U’s near field communication (NFC) technology.  The result mirrors Skylanders, wherein a Raving Rabbid figurine was transported into the game.

And is that an Ezio Auditore da Firenze figure we see being eyeballed next?  Yes, yes it is.

It's great that Rayman Origins is getting a sequel, and the Wii U version looks like it will have a few features that may make it the definitive version.  I'm looking forward to this.

I have said this before, but the following words need to be banned from game titles: Origins, Ultimate, Reckoning, Revenge, Retribution, and Legends.

That being said, I like the art style of this game, but I really couldn't care less about the tacked on Wii U tablet "multiplayer". It reminds me of the "why bother" two player mode of Mario Galaxy.

But the importing items into the world thing...can you say Skylanders 2? Or, make that $kylander$ 2, because they will make a killing with the Wii U version.

What's wrong with using those words?

They're totally played out. Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is such a generic name. Anytime a game or movie uses one of these as their subtitle it's like a signal for me to not care.

I can count with my fingers the number of games that use the word reckoning... not that many (my source: GameFAQs). You can't just not give the game a title, and eventually all words will have been used.

Sure, that's an incredibly reductive way of looking at it. I think people can come up with more interesting titles than tacking some played out subtitle on the end of it. Personally, it bores the crap out of me. If it doesn't bother you, congrats.

I honestly didn't get that game due to the title.

Pat you may want to reconsider when the price drops, it's actually a very good game. The combat alone makes it worth a try.

"I have said this before, but the following words need to be banned from game titles: Origins, Ultimate, Reckoning, Revenge, Retribution, and Legends."

That should be a drinking game. Go through your game collection, for every game that has these words, take a shot. You may want to have someone with a phone in hand, 911 on speed dial just case you take more shots you can handle.

But yeah, nothing like getting a second chance. Though I've seen on othe forums bitching about the lack of Beyond of Good and Evil 2. Something about the game being held hostage...(We'll see how Origins sells...ok let's see how Legends does..)

At this point, I think the only one holding BG&E 2 is Michel Ancel. The last time he talked about it, he said the game was too ambitious for current consoles. Which is insane if true. Putting that much work into a sequel to a game that was a huge failure at retail is a bad move. A sequel will sell better than the original of course, but it won't be the multimillion seller they seem to need it to be.

As I said before the site's FB, I hope they sell those little figurines with the game, because there is no way I'm going to buy them for myself. I think that idea looks really cool, but I'd hate to see it used to further push merchandize that directly effects the player's experience. Then again I'm projecting way too much off of a small trailer.
