Carmen Sandiego Adventures in Math: The Case of the Crumbling Cathedral Review

And I thought the other games in the series were short!

After the abduction of the Statue of Liberty and Big Ben, as well as the subsequent arrests of two V.I.L.E. criminals, you'd think the V.I.L.E. crew would lay low for a while. Instead, they've gotten more ambitious than ever, stealing the St. Basil's Cathedral in Moscow as well as the pyramids straight out of Egypt. With the most linear quest yet, The Case of the Crumbling Cathedral is the shortest of the three episodes currently available on the Wii Shop Channel. While it's home to the best puzzles yet, it's over so quickly that it's hard to pay it any respect at all.

Carmen Sandiego Adventures in Math: The Big Ben Burglary Review

This time Big Ben is missing.

The Big Ben Burglary is the second case in the ongoing episodic production of Carmen Sandiego Adventures in Math. As such, it features the same Professor Layton inspired gameplay from the The Lady Liberty Larceny, with the exception that the puzzles are more rooted in mathematics than general puzzle solving. This makes for a quest that's a bit duller than the first, in addition to being even briefer.

Carmen Sandiego Adventures in Math: The Lady Liberty Larceny Review

Do it Rockapella!

Funny enough, I never realized that Carmen Sandiego began as a computer game series, only later hitting TV screens with Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?. As such, Carmen Sandiego Adventures in Math: The Lady Liberty Larceny is more a return to form than a modern adaptation of a childhood classic. Thankfully, the developers have applied some modern game design to the over 20 year old franchise, taking cues from the Professor Layton series. While on the short side, this adventure in math will provide some reasonably challenging math-based puzzles for the proper age group as well as a cursory glance at some world geography.

New Details on Mortal Kombat Vita

Have Scorpion and company in your pocket along with all new features.

Last year, the newest iteration in the Mortal Kombat franchise revitalized the series with a return to form gameplay style and sweet, bloody, over-the-top fatalities that were missing from the previous title, Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. Now that experience can be had on the go with the recent announcement of Mortal Kombat for the upcoming PlayStation Vita. Mortal Kombat co-creator and NetherRealm Studios creative director Ed Boon is determined to make that experience one that can only be had on the new handheld.

Twisted Metal to Have Online Pass

Despite Dave Jaffe's wishes, the title will require an Online Pass.

Back in December, Dave Jaffe said in an interview that he hopes to avoid implementing an Online Pass, a one use code that unlocks online multiplayer, in the game. He mentioned that Sony had asked the crew at Eat Sleep Play to look into coding for it but nothing had been decided. Jaffe went on to say as follows:

SOPA and PIPA are Gone ... For Now

Votes on both pieces of legislation have been suspended for the time being.

Earlier this week it was announced that SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and PIPA (Protect IP Act) had lost tremendous amounts of support in the Senate and Congress. The loss of support was in large part due to the number of blackouts that occurred all over the internet protesting these bills.  In line with these developments house judiciary committee chairman Lamar Smith (R-Texas) and Senate majority leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) both announced plans to delay any further movement on either piece of legislation.

MIA - Dino Crisis

We just need some dino DNA to bring this franchise back from extinction.

Well kiddies, it’s another fantastic Friday and that means another installment of my favorite bi-weekly column Missing in Action!  For those of you not familiar with my weekly staple, MIA is a column where we pick a game or franchise out of the gutter, clean it up and present it for a current generation update.
