Sony Rebuffs New Hacker Attempt

Hackers access thousands of PSN accounts. Sony locks down compromised accounts.

Sony Chief Information Security Officer Philip Reitinger posted this morning on the Official European Sony Blog that a mass attempt at logging into thousands of PSN and SOE accounts was rebuffed last night. Suspected of culling the list from other companies, the hackers used large amounts of username-password combinations to attempt access to Sony users. 93,000 accounts appeared to be successfully accessed by using these username-password sets. In response Sony locked all of those accounts until their proper owners could confirm authenticity and reset passwords. Of those accounts, "a small fraction" had transactions on them before being locked down. Sony is reviewing all account activity and offering to assist anyone who may have had purchases made in their name.

Sesame Street Leads the Charge For Kinect Releases

Elmos and Hulk Hogans and Bears, Oh, My!

After a dramatic unveiling just before E3 last year and a successful launch, there has been little in the way of Kinect news or releases as of late. While the peripheral has seen the recent release of Child of Eden and Twisted Pixel’s western-themed shooter The Gunstringer, it has been quiet on the horizon for Microsoft’s camera. That all changed this week, as the peripheral sees not one, not two, but six new releases. Read on for information on all of them.

John Carmack Addresses the Problems With the Launch of Rage

The legendary developer has some shocking comments.

id is a company that has been synonymous with the PC since its inception. The company that brought the world Doom and Quake has always pushed the PC as the lead platform for their games. Even though Doom 3 was released on the Xbox about six months after the PC launch, id had never gone fully multiplatform on day one until the release of Rage last week. While the 360 and PS3 versions are stable, there have been plenty of issues with the PC version of the game. John Carmack, the co-founder of id and driving force behind the company’s game engines, spoke out about those issues recently.

Tour de 64: Charlie Blast's Territory

Why is he destroying his own territory?

With a name like Charlie Blast’s Territory, I was expecting a game as awful as the pun. What might sound like a ripoff of Bomberman is actually a puzzle game involving pushing explosives together to set them all off in one chain, thus clearing the stage. There are many elements to instill variety into the gameplay, which usually distract from the lackluster presentation. Although it is short-lived, there are some truly mind-bending puzzles awaiting those up to the challenge.

RAGE Review

id emerges from hibernation to a FPS landscape that has changed considerably since they ruled the roost. Do they still have what it takes to dominate?

id defined the first person shooter for an entire generation of gamers.  From Wolfenstein to Doom to Quake, they pumped out standard setting shooters for years before going quiet after the 2004 release of Doom 3.  In the years since, they have worked diligently on an all new IP that slowly morphed into the finished product that we know today as Rage--a game that stays true to the aesthetic and spirit of its predecessors while borrowing a few trappings from more contemporary games.  Does it have what it takes to hold its own in a world dominated by the likes of Call of Duty, Halo, and Battlefield?  You better believe it does.
