Alien Breed 2: Assault Review

Team 17 continues to dazzle us with mediocrity in their latest remake.

Franchise necromancer, Team 17, is back and they want you to play their latest reiteration of a game they already made in the '90s. Alien Breed 2: Assault is a semi-fixed camera shooter that doesn’t try to do anything fancy and stays painfully true to the original Amiga classic. Like most in Team 17’s library, it’s a value priced game with equally low production that tries to do exactly what the game before it did with just a couple new features added on, primarily, Survival Mode.

Fallout: New Vegas Review

It's Fallout 3 with a better story.

I guess Ron Perlman wasn’t joking when he said, “War never changes.” At the very least it seems to stay pretty consistent in Fallout: New Vegas, the sequel to Fallout 3 the 2008 video game of the year. Rather than developing the game in-house, as they did with 3, Bethesda Studios turned over the production of the game to Obsidian Entertainment, the spiritual successor to the original creators of the Fallout franchise.

Tour de 64: Brunswick Circuit Pro Bowling

Bowling doesn't translate well into a videogame.

The sport of bowling is a social game, often played with friends when knocking back a few beers. It's a great alternative to an evening movie if there's nothing good playing at the local theater, though the enjoyment of it is mostly dependent on the group. The experience just can't be replicated in a bowling videogame.

Blue Dragon: Awakened Shadow Review

I could've sworn I've seen a reddish-purple dragon in this game, too.

It looks nice out today. I think I'm going to go to town, perhaps meet up with some friends. Leaving my room, suddenly, it hits me. POW!

Cutscene.

Well, now I know some random person I've never seen before is unhappy and needs help in one random area. Guess I'll leave the building. Then, it hits me. Pow!

Kinect's Midnight Launch

After Dark

I decided I'd finally attend one of those various midnight openings to see how well received Kinect was at various retailers opening to sell the device at Midnight. Since the device is a bit different than what's out there for video games, I figured it would be interesting to get a good view of the crowds and to see if anything special was going down for the launch.

PB & Jason Issue 17: Love Kinection

How long until Love Kinection actually gets made?

Ok! To celebrate the November 4th launch of Kinect, I thought I'd create a podcast that's nearly all about Kinect, like I did with the Move!

Rock Band 3 Review

Harmonix has officially left the Guitar Hero series in the dust.

Harmonix continues to impress with their latest mainline entry of the Rock Band series. Rather than revolutionizing the genre through complete and total change, they have managed to keep the same general structure while adding the brand new Pro mode that brings players closer than ever to truly playing the instrument they are emulating. As a matter of fact, if players choose to take on the Expert variant of Pro mode, they will actually be truly playing the exact notes that comprise the song. Couple this with keyboard support and an eclectic set list and you have the best rhythm game available on the market.

Enslaved: Odyssey to the West Review

Enslaved: Odyssey to the West is a game with a simple story premise, odd technical issues and lots of repetitive gameplay. But it is also one of the most visually striking, well-acted and memorable games I have ever played.

It is a rare occurrence these days to come across a game that truly feels unique, and while Enslaved: Odyssey to the West definitely borrows from other games that have come before it; I feel it is safe to say Ninja Theory has definitely made something original.

Tour de 64: Bottom of the 9th

The pitch. Swing and a miss.

Konami always tried really hard with their sports games, but they generally ended up as mediocre efforts. Bottom of the 9th is no different. Not only does it have little to offer, but the basic gameplay isn't solid; the interface is a tad confusing; and the presentation is a mess of bland graphics and incessant commentary. Quite a few baseball games were released onto the Nintendo 64 over the years, and this one is no doubt the bottom of the barrel.
