Max Payne 2 was a game that did two things amazingly well: it provided a dark, deep, and gritty story that was accentuated by its film noir approach, and it offered unique third person shooting that was unlike anything else thanks to the bullet time system. Max Payne 3 brings both back, but neither is executed to the degree of excellence seen in the past iteration of the series.

Today, Rockstar Games officially announced the release date for the third game in the Max Payne series. Releasing first in America on consoles, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 owners will be able to pick up Max Payne 3 on May 15; May 18 it will release internationally. On May 29 the game will release for PC in America, followed by a June 1 international release.

Some gamers may not be happy about the new direction that Max Payne seems to be taking, but we can all agree that the new special edition as announced today by Rockstar Games is pretty sweet.
