Microsoft E3 2012 Conference Yields Several Game Announcements

Microsoft held their E3 2012 conference this morning and many game announcements were made. These include two new Kinect games, something new from Twisted Pixel, Kinect functionality in two EA sports titles, and more.

New XBLA Title CastleStorm Coming This Year

The new game is described as a Tower Defense RTS.

Zen Studios has revealed that CastleStorm, a tower defense RTS with a medieval setting, is being developed for the Xbox Live Arcade and will be released later this year. The title will implement "2D archery projectile warfare and 2D physics-based structure destruction" and will feature a mix of resource management, RTS elements and various other gameplay scenarios.

Ni no Kuni Delayed to 2013

The title once slated to release later this year has slipped.

Recently at Global Gamer's Day, Namco Bandai revealed that Studio Ghibli and Level-5's Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch has been delayed. The title was originally scheduled to release this winter, but will now not reach American shores until early 2013.

Zipper Interactive Closed by Sony

With the completion of Unit 13, the internal development studio has been shuttered.

Since 2006, Zipper Interactive has been a part of the Sony Computer Entertainment World Wide Studios family. After being acquired, the team went on to create SOCOM 4, MAG, and most recently, Unit 13. With that title completed, Sony has now confirmed closure of the studio. This news comes roughly one week after rumors were circulating that the studio was already in the process of being disbanded.

Starbreeze Working On Free-To-Play Title

Entitled Cold Mercury, little is known about this new title.

Starbreeze Studios, the developers behind the first Darkness game, Chronicles of Riddick and the recent Syndicate reboot, is going out of their comfort zone and developing a new free-to-play title called Cold Mercury. No details have been revealed yet but CEO Mikael Nermark reassures fans that the studio will still make triple A titles.

Dene and Simon Carter have formed a new studio have departing from Peter Molyneux's team.

Former Lionhead Studios staffers Dene and Simon Carter have formed Another Place Productions, a new UK-based studio, according to Joystiq. Both brothers worked on the Fable series and have brought with them several other members of the Fable development team.

Lionhead Studios Counting Down to GDC

A countdown clock has appeared on the developer's website.

Since E3 last year, not much has been heard from Peter Molyneux or Lionhead Studios. After revealing their next title, the Kinect game Fable: The Journey, details on the game or a statement of any kind has not been released. It seems that will change as a countdown clock has appeared on the developer's website today.

Ni no Kuni Coming Stateside Winter 2012

Both English and Japanese voiceovers available as well.

We can now narrow down the North American release window for Level-5’s Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch.  Namco Bandai revealed that they have moved from the vague release window of 2012 to the slightly less vague release window of winter 2012.  Assuming the publisher isn’t referring to the winter we currently find ourselves in, this means that we’ll likely see the Studio Ghibli collaborated RPG come stateside at the end of the year.

Almost Half Of Sega Studios Australia Laid Off

Sega has restructured Sega Australia to half its size.

Joystiq is reporting that Sega has confirmed that it's in the process of restructuring Sega Studios Australia. The publisher is laying off 37 of the studio's 80 employees, which currently finished London 2012 - The Official Video Game of the Olympic Games.
