Major Nelson posted a blog today announcing the release of several new apps available on Xbox Live. As part of a continuing effort to build the console into a multimedia center, Microsoft has now released UFC on Xbox Live. This new app will allow users to watch UFC matches on their Xbox 360 in full HD.

Microsoft's Major Nelson announced today that for the next 12 days, there will be a daily deal on Xbox Live. Called the 12 Days of Xbox Deals, every day will bring a new deal on a different item. However, each deal will only last for one day. The first deal is 50% off Bastion. Normally 1200 Microsoft Points or $15, for today only it will be available for 600 points or $7.50. Ninja Gaiden 3 has been assigned an official release date. Before it was revealed to be sometime in March, but now we know that March 20 will be the precise day the game will be available at retail. The title will ship in a normal version, as well as a Collector's Edition dubbed the "truly deluxe package."

At the launch of the Xbox 360, the new Xbox Live Arcade service was introduced but there wasn’t a lot to be excited about. Oh sure, ports of Smash TV, Bejeweled 2, and Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved is fine but there was nothing of real substance in the XBLA launch lineup. Fast forward to May of 2006 and a digital version of the card game UNO is released. In less than a year’s time, it becomes the first XBLA title to surpass one million downloads. How is it that a title like this has become so successful? UNO succeeds because of the simplicity of the rules and the simple controls.

Xotic is a peculiar beast. Developer WXP Games has created something that’s somewhat hard to describe yet familiar when you actually play it. As the reviewer though, I need to do my best in doing so. Okay. Xotic (pronounced like exotic) is a first person shooter with an emphasis on scoring and clearing a level like that of a puzzle game. You are sent to stop the Orb, which is a being that evolved beyond its physical body and has gone mad and is now destroying planets. The way you accomplish this is by completing each level by destroying enemies, collecting power-ups and shooting orb plants in order to get a combo going and raise your high score. Despite impressive art design and surprisingly deep game mechanics, none of this actually melds into a cohesive whole and you’ll be left disappointed at a game that at first held promise but quickly grows frustrating.
The third entry in the series is coming to XBLA and PSN.
Ubisoft announced today that they are prepping Rayman 3 for the HD treatment. In celebration of the recently released Rayman Origins, Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc will be coming to Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network in the spring. The remaster will feature online leaderboards, achievements and trophies, and it will now run at a consistent 60 frames per second, complete with better audio quality.

Double Fine's Trenched is coming to Europe under a different name, Iron Brigade. The mech tower defense game will be updated the day the game is released to Europe to change the name. This update will also include new features.
