The Nerds Without Pants are back and starting 2018 off strong! We are joined by Ryan Higgins from The Geekbox and The Comic Conspiracy to talk about our top 5 games we played in 2017, and we’re pretty sure you’re going to be surprised at the selections, so let’s get started!

It’s hard to believe that it’s already been over five years since I helped PixlBit ring in Final Fantasy’s 25th anniversary with an exhaustive retrospective series, but here we are. Even though I missed the actual 30th anniversary of my favorite game franchise, I couldn’t let that milestone pass without doing something to show my love for this epic saga. To that end, I submit to you, our dear readers, my ordered ranking of the fifteen main games in the series. Naturally, this excludes spinoffs like Final Fantasy Tactics and direct sequels like Lightning Returns, and this is very much my list and in no way is PixlBit’s definitive order. But hey, everyone loves a good list, right? Each game features a quick paragraph reprising some of the information from the FF Retrospective, and a more personal take on each entry. I hope you enjoy!

Welcome, lovely listeners! The Nerds Without Pants are taking a break to play some more of the excellent games released in 2017, but that doesn't mean we are leaving you in the lurch. Far from it! Before break we each recorded a little something to highlight some of our favorite music from the year in games. So sit back and enjoy an eclectic mix of gaming tunes as unique as our three hosts.

After a monumentally long episode of Nerds Without Pants, the Pantsless Ones bring things down to normal show length. Which is to say, still pretty damn long. Maybe Julian should host up and reign these guys in, eh?
My god, New Kid, what a tragic backstory!
South Park: The Stick of Truth triumphed over adversity to become a critical and commercial success. It was a gamble on a franchise that had never had a great game, went through a protracted development cycle, and survived the closing of its original publisher. Three years later South Park: The Fractured but Whole may not have had as many roadblocks, but it is a sequel to a surprise hit being developed by a different team and attempting to be just as successful as its predecessor. While it may not reach the heights that The Stick of Truth hit, this is a worthy sequel.
Three fourths epic.
When I reviewed Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor, I elected to tell a personal story of my journey through the game in lieu of a traditional review, since it best represented the strengths of that title. As I was playing through its sequel, Middle Earth: Shadow of War, I wanted to do the same thing. Unfortunately, there are enough complexities with this release that story time will have to wait for another feature. Shadow of War is simultaneously the most fun I’ve had all year and one of my disappointments for 2017.
