PB & Jason Issue 104: Over-Speculating the Price of Gold

Xbox Live Gold just isn't worth the official $60 price tag.

Over the last few years, Microsoft has touted the increasing number of features introduced to Xbox Live Gold. Unfortunately, most of these features come at a price. Literally. Many of the newer Xbox Live Gold features, like Hulu Plus, Verizon FiOS, and Amazon Prime, as well as several older features, require outside subscriptions to other services. At the same time, Microsoft has pointed to the increase in features as a reason to raise the subscription price of Xbox Live Gold from $50 to $60. Much of this week's PB & Jason is on this issue. The rest? Pokémon Black and White 2, Borderlands 2, and New Super Mario Bros. 2 DLC. Click through for the download and streaming links!

Mark of the Ninja Review

I can totally see the sound, man.

Sneaking silently, planning every move, and executing with absolute precision; it's not something you're going to be doing in most games in this day and age. Bombastic action, huge set pieces, and non-stop action is the flavor of the week; however, Mark of the Ninja not only encourages, but requires the exact opposite for success. Though the stealth genre has traditionally been one that most gamers do not appreciate, Mark of the Ninja boils it down to its essence and makes it accessible for everyone.

Tomba! Review

It's weird and unique, but is it fun?

Due to its rarity, Tomba has become highly sought after for fans and collectors alike. The title, created by the now defunct Whoopee Camp, was the brain child of Ghosts'n Goblins creator/Mega Man producer Tokuro Fujiwara. While the multi-plane sidescroller has Fujiwara's signature, it doesn't quite capture the magic of his prior works, especially 15 years after its release.

Nintendo Continues to Ignore its Own Legacy

Don't be fooled by Nintendo's latest "historical" offering.

In the PixlBit mailbox, we get a lot of press releases.  Some are informative, some are hilarious, and some are just junk.  Rarely do I dismiss one from Nintendo outright, but when they sent over a release about Art Academy and Crosswords Plus I did just that.  I could barely read the title of the email without nodding off.  Come to find out, buried at the very bottom is a huge slap in my face and yours too. Nintendo is once again trying to pass off the NES version of Donkey Kong as the true form of the game, while continuing to ignore the arcade version - the game responsible for shaping the company.

It's about time we got more from our Xbox Live Gold subscriptions, isn't it?

Celebrating 3 Years of PixlBit

A note from the Director and Co-Owner, Nick DiMola.

Well, here we are again. Today, PixlBit celebrates its 3rd Anniversary, an achievement I'm quite proud of. A little more than three years ago, Chessa and I poured our heart and soul into the creation of this website. Built from nothing, PixlBit slowly secured its place in the gaming media, and is now the site that stands before you. We've had ups and downs, several rewrites, and many staff members, but somehow we've made it this far and there's no stopping us now.
