Namco Bandai Profits Up 48% Last Quarter

The company had strong sales in Japan to make up for poor international numbers.

Namco Bandai has announced that its quarterly profits have increased by 48%. This is due to a 17% increase in Japan and despite a 27% decrease in the US and a 5% decrease in Europe. The period in question is from the beginning of October to the end of December 2011.

Star Trek Movie Tie-In Game Coming in 2013

Paramount Pictures and Namco Bandai are teaming up to develop the game.

Namco Bandai has announced that it is working in conjunction with Paramount Pictures to develop a video game based on the upcoming Star Trek movie for a 2013 release. The title will be released for "all major home consoles and PC."

Syndicate Voice Cast Includes Rosario Dawson and Brian Cox

A couple of Hollywood's stars voice characters in the series reboot.

Electronic Arts announced via a press release that actors Rosario Dawson (Men in Black II, Sin City) and Brian Cox (The Bourne Identity) will play as Lily Drawl and Jack Denham respectively in the upcoming Syndicate reboot game. Lily Drawl is a rising star of EuroCorp, a corporation featured in the game and Jack Denham has a top role in the same company.

The finale of the NES trilogy is truly a classic to behold.

The year was 1990. It is about a year before the Super Nintendo makes its debut, but the NES is enjoying brisk sales of both hardware and games. The previous year Nintendo released its first handheld system, the Game Boy, and unleashed the addiction known as Tetris. This was, however, in North America. As I eluded to in Mario Mania #2, a Famicom player often had a different, exclusive set of hardware to play with than his counterpart in North America. The Japan-only accessory, the Famicom Disk System, was one of them.

Blizzard Takes Issue With Valve's Use of DOTA

Warcraft developer issues a notice of opposition to Valve's mod based game.

The acronym DOTA may not mean a whole lot to some people, but it apparently means a lot to Blizzard.  Short for Defense of the Ancients, DOTA began its life as a popular mod for Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and the expansion The Frozen Throne.  Valve, a company that is decidedly not Blizzard, took notice of the mod’s popularity and began development of a sequel, aptly titled DOTA 2.

Activision Blizzard had an investor's call earlier today. During their presentations, information about key titles was shown and several noticable announcements were made as well. Chief among them was the projected release window for Diablo III.

Aliens: Colonial Marines Official Box Art Revealed

In space no one can hear you scream in delight.

Even though Aliens: Colonial Marines has been delayed to the fall, gamers can now get a glimpse of the game’s official box art.  The PC art is shown, but you can check out the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions by visiting the appropriate game page.

Community, Not Publisher, Funds Double Fine Adventure

The next game out of Double Fine Productions will be entirely funded by community pledges.

Sometimes miraculous things happen in the video game community.  Double Fine Productions, creators of cult favorite games like Psychonauts, Costume Quest and most recently Double Fine Happy Action Theater wants to return to their roots and produce a simple “point-and-click” adventure game that they are aptly calling Double Fine Adventure.  Usually a developer would have to rely on a publisher, investors or bank loans to bankroll such a production, but Double Fine has instead decided to reach out to the community to fund the game.
