Push Start to Continue Episode 10: New Hardware Edition

Finally, we can watch television on our televisions.

In this edition of Push Start to Continue the boys don’t spend any time at all talking about the newly announced Xbox One and Microsoft’s “One Device to Rule Them All!” market strategy…wait, that’s actually the opposite of what happens here.

The Best Buttons of All Time

Press "A" to be awesome.

Press A to jump, press X to hit, press RT to shoot, press B to put me to sleep, am I right?  So many games use buttons all the time and they just do the most boring things you can imagine. You have to use them to finish levels and beat opponents and whatever, but what about using them for the really important stuff?  Very few games use buttons to do things that are truly unique and appeal to our darker, immature inner selves, but when they do it can be excellent, sophomoric fun.  So, turn on that middle school brain of yours and revel with me in the best uses for game buttons of all time.

PB & Jason Issue 124 Part One: Not Easy as 1, 2, 3...

The Xbox One is touted as an "All-in-One" entertainment console. Will things work out that way?

This week's PB & Jason is split into two parts. Why? There's just too much to talk about. The Xbox One alone takes up more than an entire issue! That means today, you'll get some perspective on the entire Xbox One reveal press conference. PB & Jason covers the entire stage reveal: The TV parts, the all-in-one parts, Kinect, the gameplay footage that lacked gameplay, and the cross-generation and multiplatform games shown. The verdict? Things aren't looking so good. Tune into tomorrow for the second part, featuring discussion about the news revealed after the press conference on the Xbox One, Denis Dyack, the most recent Nintendo Direct, and those game ideas I've been promising for a little while now!

PB & Jason Issue 123: PixlBite Engine 3

EA didn't port FrostBite Engine 3 to the Wii U, so the 15 (and counting) games in development that use the engine won't make it to Nintendo's console.

That's right, this week's PB & Jason is mostly about people NOT developing things for the Wii U. It isn't a big surprise, since that seems to have taken up most of this week's headlines. It's also about hopes that EA's Star Wars exclusivity license is more limited than we believe it is. Interspersed throughout the discussion of games that aren't for the Wii U are a few thoughts about the trouble ahead for the PS4 and the next XBox, as well. Follow all of this with some discussion about the relationship between US gun violence and video games, and we've got ourselves a delicious PB & Jason.

PB & Jason Issue 122: Is a Kinect Worth Over $2,000 and Your Dignity?

Let's make a deal, I'll sell you a Kinect for $500 and you can say you won it from me.

This week's PB & Jason was recorded in front of a live studio audience. Or it wasn't. I can say this: No one's ever lost money playing a carnival game to listen to PB & Jason. I'm not sure if I should be proud or saddened by that fact. To know what I'm talking about, you'll have to click through to listen to the podcast.

PB & Jason Issue 121: The Third Strongest PB & Jason

Of all the PB & Jasons, I believe this one to be the third strongest.

Earthbound is on the way to the Virtual Console! I thought it would never happen. Other good news from today's Nintendo Direct includes a new Zelda title, a new Yoshi's Island game, and some release dates. However, all of this information is sombered by a shocking realization: With the exception of SiNG Party and debatably Kirby's Dream Collection: Special Edition, Nintendo hasn't released a single console game that was announced after E3 2011. Mystifying! Oh, and the podcast actually starts up with some talk about EA's latest "de"-ward followed by the continuing Amazon/Nintendo mystery. Click through to listen!

PB & Jason Issue 120: Lasers and Toilets and Blogs!

Oh my!

In this week's PB & Jason, a few blogs are invaded, specifically Nick's "Ask Me Anything -- Volume #2" and GirlGamerBritt's "Replay Hell: Final Fantasy XIII (Yes, I'm going there)." Beyond those blogs, talk continues about Square-Enix's problems, courtesy of Coolsetzer's comment last issue, along with discussion about why LucasArts may have closed, Gearbox's Borderlands 2, and a little bit of Luigi's Mansion 2. PB & Jason Issue 118: SimFantaCity

Hidden gems in game code, SimCity rants, and Final Fantasy Fixes abound in this week's PB & Jason.

You may have heard the news that F-Zero AX was discovered inside F-Zero GX. That news inspired a brief bit of talk about other places where things were hidden pretty deep inside a few games from the past, mostly on the N64. Naturally, SimCity took up a lot of time, too, and Issue 118 closes with some of Julian's Final Fantasy piece. Be sure to listen to the beginning to catch a few more details about the Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate Community week! Click through for listening and download links!
