Sony Purchases Gaikai

Is streaming the future of gaming? Sony's betting on it.

With the ongoing battle between publishers and retailers over used games—not to mention the fight against piracy—it stands to reason that a move away from physical media is the future for the video game industry. It’s a transition already fully underway in the film industry, with digital movie rentals, sales, and streaming services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime rapidly becoming the preferred method of watching movies at home. Some companies have tried to bring streaming to the gaming market, with OnLive being the most notable, but the big console manufacturers have been mum on the subject. That is, until now. It was announced today that Sony is purchasing Gaikai, another popular cloud-based video game streaming service.

Sine Mora Review

Grasshopper and Digital Reality deliver a one-of-a-kind shoot-'em-up.

Sine Mora is a fascinating specimen, which should be no surprise to anyone familiar with Grasshopper Manufacture's other work. Once again, the team behind No More Heroes and Shadows of the Damned has delivered an experience that shakes up the established norms of a genre and provides a crazy, convoluted story that will have most players scratching their heads. This horizontal scrolling, bullet hell shoot-'em-up introduces a unique upgrade, special move, and timing system that drives the boss-intensive quest. While Sine Mora suffers from a few minor issues, its ingenuity and originality make it one of the best titles in the genre.

Dragon's Lair Coming To XBLA with Kinect Support

This edition marks the 66th platform for this classic title.

Yesterday there was speculation that Dragon’s Lair may be coming to Xbox Live Arcade, today it was made official. According to Microsoft’s Play XBLA, Dragon’s Lair is the first arcade title to offer players both classic and Kinect controls. Little else has been released about the title at this time, but for those of you keeping track, this edition marks the sixty-sixth platform that title has appeared on. It first debuted in arcades in 1983.
