Crysis 2 Review

Console gamers can find out what we've been missing out on all this time.

Reportedly, to play Crysis 2 on the PC, you would have to spend thousands on a graphics card composed of subatomic particles captured in the Large Hadron Collider. Anything less would require one hand on WASD and another pointing a fire extinguisher directly at your GPU. Problem is, we never heard about why this game might actually be worth playing besides eyeball-blasting gorgeousness. Maybe a mention or two about the alien invasion story that is actually engaging, or the body armor that spices up the standard FPS routine would have caused more demand to port the thing to consoles. Console gamers rejoice, Crysis 2 is now available on the box under your TV, and all of us with Dell assembled econo-computers can finally give the game a try. It’s a good thing too, because all shooter fans should dive in and experience this beautiful and well-made game.

Rumor: Dead Space FPS Coming Soon?

EA seeks to expand a brand by possibly diluting the product.

EA has been really trying to turn Visceral Games’ Dead Space franchise into a major brand.  In addition to the fantastic sequel that was released earlier this year, the Dead Space name has been popping up on comic books, animated films, a novelization and the franchise spin-off on-rails shooter Dead Space: Extraction for the Wii and PlayStation 3.  But if a source cited by Kotaku is to be believed, EA is gearing up for some major expansion of the survival horror franchise.

Gotham City Imposters Dated

Online Beta also dated and it starts sooner than you may expect.

It’s been a while since the Batman-themed multiplayer First Person Shooter was announced, but we haven’t heard a whole heck of a lot about when we could expect to see the game.  That changed today and you’ll be happy to know that you’ll be taking shots at batman look-alikes and Joker posers sooner than later.

Call of Juarez: The Cartel Review

I'd try to name a worse shooter, but nothing comes to mind.

Call of Juarez: The Cartel is the third game in the Call of Juarez series, with each game preceding it being decent, albeit with some minor problems. They have always had a western theme which made the series differ from many other shooters today, something I've appreciated. The Cartel drops the Western theme and, coincidentally, all of the fun as well. I almost felt like I was playing Dog the Bounty Hunter the video game rather than Call of Juarez. If that's not enough to dissuade you, I don't know what is.

Resistance: Fall of Man Review Rewind

The end of mankind has never been so fun.

When I originally learned that Insomniac Games, the minds behind Spyro the Dragon and the Ratchet and Clank series were planning a new IP for the launch of the PlayStation 3, I was pretty excited. When they revealed that it was going to be a gritty first person shooter my excitement waned a bit as skepticism started to take over. You see, it was the beginning of the FPS wave that would soon flood the market. It made sense that Sony was getting in on the action with the Killzone series, but I was surprised that the guys at Insomniac were heading down a path that had been travelled down so many times that it was more like a super highway. I wanted something more original than what looked like was coming. Sony only added pressure by marketing the game as their “killer app” – that must-have title that was supposed to push systems out the door and into the living rooms of nerds like myself.

Borderlands Review Rewind

Why does this game remind me of Firefly?

I’m not sure what it is, but loot-based dungeon crawlers have an unbelievable ability to completely immerse me. I hate to say it, but they’re basically digital crack and I’m completely unable to put them down until I either reach the end of the game or hit the level cap. Borderlands is my latest indulgence, but it has a twist that you wouldn’t usually associate with the genre.
