Though only a minor mention in Nintendo's third quarter investor briefing, it seems yet another 2D side-scrolling Mario game is in the works for the 3DS. According to Nintendo, the two Mario games released in 2011 for the 3DS - Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 - are their centerpiece evergreen titles. That information combined with the overwhelming success of both New Super Mario Bros. and New Super Mario Bros. Wii make a new 2D side-scrolling Mario game an easy call.
A name change and a release window may have been revealed.
Reuters is reporting that Nintendo's successor, the Wii U, will be released at the end of this year. However, it may be released with a different name according to CVG. Come E3 2012 this June, it is rumored that Nintendo will rebrand the Wii's successor.

But the funny thing about Final Fantasy is the fact that each adventure takes place in a completely different world with new lands to explore, party members to meet and villains to defeat. The only time a Final Fantasy game has continued its story was with the spinoff of FF X, which was given the awkward-but-accurate name of Final Fantasy X-2. That changes now, with the divisive Final Fantasy XIII getting a direct sequel on January 31.

While not many have had the opportunity to play the Virtual Boy, Renegade Kid’s latest work is oddly reminiscent of Nintendo’s misfit system. Back when the Virtual Boy launched, it touted its special 3D capabilities; these boiled down to little more than multiple viewing planes, which gave the illusion of 3D. The most memorable games used these multiple planes to create deeper platforming experiences. Taking a cue from these experiences, Mutant Mudds allows players to jump between the current plane, background, and foreground.

An image surfaced on Xbox.com over the weekend that exposed a few interesting details about Resident Evil 6, including a six player co-op option as well as eight player multiplayer.
