A veteran fighting franchise makes a statement.
The Virtua Fighter series is well known and applauded for its balance and its simple complexity. A fighting game played with only three buttons, Virtua Fighter features a simple control scheme but adds incredible depth with its refined gameplay systems. This may seem odd when compared to other fighters that use more buttons, but Virtua Fighter is arguably one of the most complex fighting games on the market. With this latest iteration—subtitled Final Showdown—the series emphasizes its strong points.

Street Fighter X Tekken was released for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 earlier this year but the PlayStation Vita version is still on the way. Capcom plans on selling you on purchasing a portable version of the game by including touch screen functionality, cross-platform play with the PlayStation 3, and more. So will you want to buy another version of the same game? Do you need another version of this game if you already own one? Should you be upset if you got the Xbox 360 version?

City Interactive is delivering some arcade-style shoot-em-up goodness later this year in the form of Dogfight 1942. Originally titled Combat Wings: The Great Battles of World War II, the game had been intended as a retail game. However, along with the name change, the game will now be a downloadable only title that will be available on Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network and Steam when it's released.

We’re at a point in time when a plethora of franchises from the early days of gaming are reaching major milestones. Just one of those storied game series is Street fighter, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary all year long. Remember Virtua Fighter 5? The game came out just a little too early to capitalize on the new fighting game boom that Street Fighter IV kicked off. Sega’s highly technical fighter had a lot of positive buzz among critics but never quite found an audience at release, with the PS3 version famously lacking in online play. Flash forward a few years and Sega is ready to take another stab at the game in a different format. Virtua Fighter 5 is coming to PSN and XBLA with some new features, and it’s coming soon.

Capcom has been under some heat lately due to their usage of on-disc DLC with some of their games, such as Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Street Fighter X Tekken. Capcom is listening, and has recently made a statement on their Ask Capcom forums.
