PB & Jason Issue 78: PB & Jason Draws Near

Jason casts the spell of TalkMore!

I haven't been interested in this week's latest gaming news, nor have I picked up any new titles between this week and last week. So what do I do? Spend the week to talk about Dragon Quest titles and RPGs in general! This week's PB & Jason is filled to the brim about details of what I enjoy in RPGs, my experience with Dragon Quest games, and hypes up a title I'm sure to play over the upcoming week: Dragon Quest VIII, which I just received today. There's a lengthy discussion about a two year-old article about older RPGs and the differences between these games and newer ones, with some criticism for the new peppered along the way in this week's best ever PB & Jason issue. Touch My Katamari Review

A portable Katamari game that controls great, but could desperately use some more variety.

The last time the Katamari series came to a handheld console, it was a lesson in frustration to say the least. Without two joysticks to properly control the Katamari, things quickly fell apart; an unfortunate truth for fans dying to roll on the go. Well, six years and a brand new handheld system later, Katamari fans have finally gotten what they’ve been waiting so long for: a good looking Katamari experience loaded with all of the integral character and humor the series is known for, that – most importantly – controls like a dream. Unfortunately, its lack of variety and content cast a dark shadow over what could have been the ultimate handheld Katamari game.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning Review

Curt Schilling’s 38 Studios knocks this one out of the park.

It’s hard not be struck by deja vu while playing Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, as it’s an amalgamation of every major Western RPG of the last five years. The art style and vibrant color palette are heavily inspired by World of Warcraft, the loot system rivals that of Borderlands, and the character development is an interesting Dragon Age: Origins/Fable hybrid. While Reckoning is quite liberal in its search for muses, it expands beyond many of them to forge a unique identity. Reckoning is to the games it borrows from, as baseball is to itself from 40 years ago; the concepts are basically the same, but everything is on steroids, making it far more enjoyable.
