After seeing this series of yours, I've come to realize that I would really like to see an InFamous movie as well!
But MGS is a solid pick!

We continue our look into video games that should have movie adaptions. If you enjoy movies, and you missed any of my VG movie reviews from last week, be sure to check them out. I reviewed Super Mario Bros, Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, Street Fighter, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Mortal Kombat, and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. But what games have never been made into movies that could actually be good (if done right)? Yesterday I gave three big ones. Today I conclude with three more. Not only do I suggest these games, but I also drop some names of people who should make these movies. Feel freee to share your own opinions. Here they are:
Metal Gear Solid
This is a no-brainer, considering the fact that Hideo Kojima wanted MGS to feel like a movie. An MGS movie would be similar to a Mission: Impossible movie. Of course, the stories for the Metal Gear games are so complicated you might need to watch it through a few times to get the plot. This one has potential, but it could also be atrocious if the wrong team does it.
The man that I think could pull it off would be Brad Bird. Bird directed Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol in 2011, and it ended up being the best movie in the series. He also wrote and directed The Iron Giant and The Incredibles. I believe he could make MGS into an exciting and appealing spy movie. The story could follow Solid Snake as he attempts to stop FOXHOUND on Shadow Moses Island. The movie would be full of tension and action.
Sadly, I'm not too familiar with all the MGS stories. Which one do you think would be best for a movie and why? For a movie like this, the story is everything.
Second Sight
Second Sight is a third person shooter and action game developed by Free Radical Design (the same team behind the TimeSplitters series) and released in 2004 for PS2, GCN, and Xbox. The game itself is great, but the story is fantastic.
The game begins with John Vattic, the protagonist, waking up in a medical facility. He doesn't remember his past or why he is there. Soon he discovers that he has psychic powers, and he uses them to escape the facility. Throughout the game, Vattic has flashbacks to when he was in a group of Marines called WinterICE. Learning more from the flashbacks and computer data, Vattic breaks into an asylum in Vermont in order to rescue Jayne Wilde, a woman who was on his team in Syberia, and who is a psychic herself. As the game progresses, Vattic will learn more of his past, meeting old comrades, breaking into more facilities (which isn't a problem thanks to his many psychic powers), and putting the pieces of the puzzle together. It's one of the best stories I've ever seen in a game, and at the end, there's a big plot twist (which I will not give away, go play this game!).
Vattic using his psychic powers to lift objects
Suffice to say, this game is perfect for a movie. The story needs to be the same from the game (please don't mess up the story!). It would be full of action as Vattic uses his powers to take out guards and infiltrate facilities; the flashback scenes would be full of stealth action and a lot of shooting. In the end, it would be a great movie. And who would be best to pull off this kind of movie? Who else, Christopher Nolan. Nolan has directed such mind-benders as Insomniac, The Prestige, and Inception. With his incredible writing, he could pull off this movie flawlessly.
Contra
Contra was born out of inspiration from movies of the 80s. Just look at the first game: two shirtless dudes who are macho (Rambo), blasting alien scum (Alien, Predator), and a lot of explosions (any movie from the 80s). Okay, so why hasn't a Contra movie been made? All you need is an alien invasion, two dudes with huge guns, action, explosions, alien guts, and it would be awesome.
Now I know what you're thinking: this movie would probably be terrible. It would probably be cheesy with over-the-top action that would get old fast. But if the right man directed this movie, it would be awesome. The right man for this movie would be J.J. Abrams. Abrams wrote and directed Super 8, a movie about an alien; not only was the acting superb, but the action was incredible (and it was never overkill). Abrams could pull off a sensible Contra plot (as sensible as aliens invading earth can be); he would ensure that the acting and action are top-notch. Abrams doesn't make bad movies; he's the next Spielberg (if you didn't notice). Therefore, Contra has the potential to be a great film.
I say MGS1 should be a movie directed by Nolan, Contra should be directed by Bird, and Second Sight I never played.
Nolan: turns comic books into very seriously toned movies (even when Dark Knight Rises gets really ridiculous, tone maintained); perfect fit for the cartoony happenigs and villains, but serious goings on of MGS.
Kurt Russel reprises role as Snake from Escape movies. Just kidding.
Bird: cartoon and action movie director. Perfect for over the top summer blockbuster Contra.
