Nice XL. I like the Mario model but then if money was no object I'd buy all the LE 3DS models. LOL
Looks like you have lots to play and yeah the 3DS eShop is gonna keep you busy for a looooong time. :)

It seems like the Lynch Mob isn't coming after all. Or maybe they are gathering numbers, sharpening pitchforks, and making sure there's plenty of torches to go around. I might as well write something in the meantime.
Like I mentioned earlier, my brother got me a 3DS XL for Christmas. This model actually.
I kind of went berserk buying games for it. It's only been what? Less than a month and I've already acquired a nice little stack of DS / 3DS games. That picture of Mario on the top must have infected my brain. Soon after I got these.
I plowed through New Super Mario Bros. 2 so quickly and liked it so much that I promptly ordered a physical copy. Nintendo's Network ID system leaves a lot to be desired. It was a bit of a shock to learn that digital games are tied to whatever console they are purchased on. It sucks, but what can you do?
There are a few rare and expensive NES games readily available on the Virtual Console that I was planning on buying. Mighty Final Fight (Seriously. Look it up on Ebay), Gargoyle's Quest II, and maybe Ninja Gaiden III. NG III is a huge maybe. That game is an absolute nightmare, and I'd hate to smash my 3DS into oblivion during a blind rage so soon. It might still be worth it though despite the Network ID issues. WTF wants to pay around $280 when you can get them for $15? Only a delusional madman would prefer physical media in that situation. Maybe someday I'll stumble upon a copy of Mighty Final Fight at Goodwill for a few bucks. Hey. A man can dream right?
My sister also got me A Link Between Worlds, and my other 3DS purchases include:
But wait! That's not all!! I also got....
So yeah. I kind of went berserk. Out of all of that, Contra 4 is the game I'm the most excited about. It's intense. WayForward developed it. Which was definitely a pleasant surprise. Jake Kaufman composed the soundtrack. Another pleasant and welcome surprise. Some of you may be more familiar with his recent work on Shovel Knight. Hopefully I can review Contra 4 once I manage to finish it.
Unless that Lynch Mob decides to show up. In that case....
Well, here's a song, and thanks for reading.
Yeah. I like it too. I would have liked one of those Yoshi XLs, but don't really have money for it. Especially not now lol.
The thing about the eShop is that I already own most of it besides the more rare stuff. That's ok though. At least the option is there. I'll probably get Azure Striker Gunvolt at some point.
I'll have to keep an eye out for some of these games. I wrote about my 3DS experience here: http://www.pixlbit.com/blog/8174/the_secret_and_sexy_life_of_blake But I need more gamez!!!!!!!!!!!!
Out of the ones you mentioned I might get FF Tactics and Contra. Have you played Fire Emblem: Awakening yet? It's the best game on 3DS hands down.
Oh, and finally, did you hear about this: http://www.pixlbit.com/blog/8547/one_of_my_blogs_made_it_the_front_page_of_ign
Sorry if it feels like I'm bragging or anything I just remember the old days when we used to talk about people trolling us and I thought of this haha.
Ah, that's ok Blake. I left you a crappy comment on your 3DS blog. There definitely seems to be a ton of awesome (and completely weird) DS + 3DS games out there. I don't think I've been this excited over a new system in a while.
I haven't played Fire Emblem Awakening. Or any FE games to be honest lol.
And yeah. I saw that blog on IGN. I was lurking in the shadows upvoting and downvoting trolls lol. Good times!
Nice! Oddly enough, my brother gave me a 3ds xl for my birthday a couple of days ago. It is a regular blue one, but did come with Mariocart. Best present I have gotten in years (due to the fact that if I want or need something, I just buy it). I am going crazy on DS and 3ds games.
Beerfan! Thanks for stopping by! That's awesome you got a 3DS Xl. I'm really enjoying mine. I haven't played Mario Kart 7 (or whatever) but probably will someday. The 3DS seems like a great system. Plenty of weird and creative games out there! Even if in my old age all I really want to play are 2D platformers.
There is so much cool stuff here, man! I'm glad you picked up Shinobi for the 3DS. That game didn't seem to get much attention when it came out but I thought it was really good. And in case you didn't know, Virtual Console games on the 3DS allow for save states, so maybe getting through Ninja Gaiden III wouldn't be quite so bad lol.
Hey, the 3DS is a nifty little system. I own more games for it than for any other handheld I've ever owned.
My favorite Virtual Console offerings on 3DS are the Kid Icarus games. The NES KI was given 3-D visuals and it has the same sound as the Famicom Disk System original (the FDS had several more sound channels than the NES, which is why some NES games that originally started as FDS games sound kind of tinny). KI: Of Myths and Monsters for the Game Boy is really hard to find and it was one of my favorite Game Boy games, so I was delighted to find it on 3DS VC.
I've never been big on handhelds due to various reasons, but am loving the 3DS already.
I saw those Kid Icarus games on the VC. I had KI on NES at one point, but got rid of it. I kind of regret that. I didn't even give the game much of a chance. I would like to try the GB version. I almost have enough points from Club Nintendo for it. Although I might try to find the cart and get one of those 3DS game cases they got on there.
I love the DS/3DS! Glad you got one and are enjoying it. Since you asked for non-standard recommendations, some of my faves are Monster Tale (DS), Attack of the Friday Monsters (3DS eShop), and Parking Star (3DS eShop). Also, any picross game is a good pick for sure.
There's always the Etrian Odyssey games too, of course, but those aren't going to appeal to everyone. There are demos for the 3DS games, though, so give them a shot.
Thanks for the recommendations Travis! Right now I'm mainly playing Super Mario 64 DS and enjoying it immensely. The camera seems to work a lot better than the N64 version. Or maybe I'm just imagining things since it's been a while lol.
I will look into those games you mentioned. One of my friends is big into Etrian Odyssey so I can ask him about those.
My biggest problem with the 3DS (and Nintendo's are systems) is the games tied to the system and not an account. It just doesn't make sense. I really hope Nintendo changes this. I keeps me from buying a lot of digital content from them. I wish the VC games were a little cheaper too.
It really doesn't make much sense. I love Nintendo, but some of the decisions they make have me facepalming. Like having a 32 GB hard drive on the Wii U. I was looking at GTA V on Steam and it requires 65 GB lol. So I probably won't bother with the VC that much other than the super rare and expensive stuff.
Aaron!!! I've missed you!!!
Congrats on the 3DS. I haven't made that jump yet. Something more important always springs up on the financial front (car repairs, vet bills, food, rent...). As for DS games, one of my favorites for that system is Hotel Dusk. I liked it so much I went hunting for and imported the sequel that wasn't released in North America.
Thanks Tami! I missed everybody around here.
It might be better that you waited since the New 3DS is coming out soon. I'm thankful my brother got me one because I might not have on my own. I didn't think there would be enough games for it.... but boy was I wrong lol. I've seen Hotel Dusk on a lot of top ten DS lists. I'll have to look into that one. Thanks for stopping by!
*POINTS*
THERE HE IS!!! LET'S GET HIM!!!!
*looks around*
anyone? No one? hello?
....
oh well *puts away pitchfork*
I can't seem to bring myself in buying alot of 3DS or dS games since I got a 3DS last year. I want to get mario titles but they still want full price for them used!!!!
I guess I like my PSP more now that is has all the numbered Final Fantasy games on it digitally.
I can't believe that Mighty final fight and NG III go for that much right now. NG III is a beast of a game. I own it on my Wii VC and I can't get past the second level! Not sure why mighty final fight goes for that much, espeically when you can get the Capcom Collection mini-mix for GBA that has the game on it for much cheaper me things....
I was waiting on those pitchforks lol.
My problem is that I've gotten so used to Steam prices even $30 for a 3DS game seems like a lot. There's a bunch of cheap DS games I want, but some of them are pricey too. I don't know why Nintendo games never go down in price.
I'll probably have to go the Capcom Mini Mix route in the end. Mighty Final Fight is a good game, but it's not worth that outrageous price. I'm glad it's on the VC at least. I finally managed to beat the original NG after all these years, but the thought of doing that in NG III with limited continues seems impossible. Maybe someday if I can ever beat Battletoads.
