The 7th generation of video game consoles has been defined by shooters and action games set in deserts of the modern era, but here at E3 2013 I've noticed the trend changing once again amongst the design world. The modern desert setting is being left behind by many AAA developers, and in its place they are embracing variations of the science-fiction and post-apocalyptic settings. Many of the AAA shooters and action games at E3 still have a gritty edge to them, but I'm happy to see that they are beginning to add more color and variety into their worlds, and they are leaving behind the setting that defined the 7th generation.

Last month I bought Bioshock Infinite and Far Cry 3. I recently posted my spoiler-free review of Bioshock to let you know how the game turned out, and once I was finished I hopped right into Far Cry 3, an open world stealth action shooter that I've been looking forward to for some time. Playing these two games back to back is a lot of shooter to take in, so I also took a break from the shooters to get some strategy and RPG time in lately as well.

Back in January I played through this game again because I needed to cleanse my pallet after the busy holiday gaming season. The first time I played Indigo Prophecy was in 2007 and I played it on 360 since it's backwards compatible. Even though that was several years ago the game was very memorable and I wanted to go through it again, so last month I did.

The last time I blogged was a good 2 months ago as the holiday season started hitting, so I certainly have some catching up to do. Even though I was out of the blogging game for a while I was still running a guerrilla campaign in the shadows reading lots of good articles on Pixlbit, Polygon, reading blogs, leaving comments occasionally, and listening to gaming podcasts. Over at Pixlbit, editor and writer Julian Titus put together quite a passionate Final Fantasy retrospective for the 25th anniversary which he worked on for several months. If you are of the Final Fantasy persuasion you should certainly check it out, but if you're not it's still a worthwhile adventure.
