It’s time to revisit one of my old “classic” 1up.com blogs. Back in 2009 I added this game to my Halloween Gaming and only spoke about it in short detail when my original Top 11 format was just a single blog post. But ever since that time I’ve felt that the game deserved a little more than just a paragraph or two explaining why it got picked for 2009. In fact a good portion of my “single blog Top 11” entries could’ve used more expansion to them. So I figured this would be a good time to pick one of the prior games to reconsider for this year’s revamped and retooled Top 11 Octoberween Game Titles. This game deservers a revisit. I’ve been playing this title off and on throughout this year. And since my 2009 list on 1up.com is a bit harder to find given the sites instability. Plus it’s only proper to highlight this game in remembrance of Harold Ramis who passed away earlier this year. If you haven’t guessed already my #07 pick is Ghostbusters: The Video Game.

This was all but inevitable. With the release of new hardware, the PS4, it was only a matter of time that content and support for last generation systems would come to pass. And it looks like one of the first items to be cut will be Sony’s attempt to create a 3D gaming hub world on the PS3. Back in August Sony announced that they were shutting down Playstation Home in Japan. Though there was no word if the US or EU servers were to suffer the same fate as Japan’s, word came out later last month that they too would be shutting down on March 31^st 2015. Sony plans to launch a large scale event to thank all the dedicated users of the service but plans were not forthcoming on exactly what was to take place.  

I would be hard pressed to include a Castlevania title this year given how I did such last year with Castlevania Judgment. But given how the Wii U’s Virtual Console is getting a lot of Castlevania love this month with Castlevania: Dracula X, Castlevania: Circle of the Moon and Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance, I thought this would be a good time to highlight a Castlevania title that might get overlooked by Wii U owners. I am hopeful that Wii U owners might be able to buy this WiiWare title that seems to have been long forgotten. I hardly hear anyone speak of this title, especially after the release of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. So hopefully you’re all in the mood to dust off your Nintendo Wii’s (or have the urge to enter your Wii U’s into Wii Mode to see if you can buy this little gem) for some retro gaming goodness with my number 9 pick for Octoberween 2014 – Castlevania: The Adventure ReBirth.

Normally I wouldn’t do an Octoberween blog about the same series back to back (last year I had Resident Evil 2 on the Nintendo 64) but with news of the digital release of the GameCube Resident Evil ReMake in HD due out next year, I thought this would be a good time to revisit and old classic before it is forgotten by the younger generations who would prefer slicker visuals, better polygon builds and tighter game controls. Not to say that there is nothing wrong with the Resident Evil Remake that is found on the GameCube. Many have hoped that this game could find its way off the GameCube given how wonderfully made the game was done. It was only a matter of time that was to come to pass, more so since we’ve seen HD re-releases of other Resident Evil titles. So that’s why I thought it would be important to try to highlight one of the first “updates” of the original Resident Evil One releases before it becomes a title that only old skool retro gamers will remember. So here is my #10 title for this year- Resident Evil: Director’s Cut Dual Shock Version for PSOne (PSN)!
