Hey everyone,

While I initially considered the possibility of taking part in this years BaD festivities, I made the realisation that I would inevitably miss at least one day no matter my attempt/effort. This would of course proceed to wreck my usual high spirits and lead me to ask one aggravating question "why did I even bother?". In that vein, I choose victory by avoidance and will step aside before the battle commences (what is dead may never die, perhaps?) and merely look forward to enjoying my time reading everyone elses entries.

With the release of the new consoles, and my non-readiness to go next gen, I’m taking the opportunity the clear out some of that crusty ol’ backlog.

So bloody tempted by this:

I haven’t blogged in a while so here we go.

I want to start this review by stating that Asura’s Wrath was sitting in my backlog for a good few months. I bought it on a whim on Amazon (along with Bayonetta; still unplayed) and was waiting to get hit by a desire to play. Everything I had heard about Asura’s Wrath told me that I would enjoy it: story driven, insane cutscenes, epic battles, anime inspired; but I kept holding off telling myself that the “desire” to play would eventually arrive. Ok so arrive it most certainly did, with a BANG! (or perhaps an AAAAARGHH! )

So our A/C decided to throw in the towel last night in the midst of a heatwave hitting the ‘burgh. Oh how pleasant. To make the situation better, it just so happens that we’re moving this coming weekend so it couldn’t have happened at a better time, yay! Lots of packing to do and it’s too damn hot to sleep so I’m a just go full zombie this week.

Over the weekend I finally finished Yakuza 4. I say “finally” because I really didn’t expect to put the hours I did into it. At completion, I clocked in at approx. 40 hours which were for the most part very enjoyable with some notable exceptions.

So I just received access to the Beta of Final Fantasy XIV A Realm Reborn for the PS3. I applied for this months ago on their website so it’s a nice Friday surprise. My hopes aren’t too high as I’ve only heard negative things about the initial release for PC but I’m interested in checking it out. I’ll put a few hours into it tonight and over the weekend and decide if it’s worth the investment at release. I’ve never actually played a MMO so I’m sure I’ll be lost at the start but I’ll sure as hell give it a good attempt.

So after a full week of dedicating my every gaming moment to it, I finished Gravity Rush on Friday night. One word I would use to describe GR is solid. Gameplay feels tight with combat being genuinely interesting and the whole concept of the game feels fresh and new. You play as Kat, a gravity shifter who is able to alter gravity for her purposes. By changing gravity, you are able to traverse with ease around the environment which allows for some very interesting exploration. Combat is fast paced with you darting at opponents and quickly flying away to avoid their attacks.
