Episode 170: Decades in the Sun

Posted on 02/28/2020 at 11:32 AM | Filed Under Feature

I have simillar thoughts. The X360 generation was mostly a miss to me. There was New Vegas, Demon's souls, Dragon's Crown, Saints Row 2,  Company of Heroes,Bad Company 2, STALKER, and Mount and Blade Warband.  My PS3 was pretty much just a Souls and DC machine. Between all consoles and PC, over an entire generation, that's not a lot.   But it was generation where Japan waned, and the dumbing down of game styles/series/genres associated with PC gaming waxed. The standout stuff from the west mostly came from obscure developers and had quite a few technical problems.

I'd have enjoyed this game more if the art direction was more like the first two. The charcoal and black aesthetic was monotonous to me.  Also liked Asylum the best. I prefer large but enclosed spaces over 'open world'.

I'd trade Zero Suit Samus for big hair, sports bra Super Metroid Samus. Didn't know the Belmonts were in these games. That's badass.

Never heard of it. I thought it was Hotel Dusk or Pheonix Wright that poplurazed VNs in NA.  I'm not familiar with this genre at all. Like I assumed that they were all just adventure games by another name and you'd be doing things like figuring out which items are used where to advance, puzzles, riddles, etc.

I had this is on my Steam wishlist, when I was in the mood for something colorful and innocent. But I forgot it came out. I don't really have time to invest in anything more than short, arcade-like fare right now, but maybe later in the year I'll get it.

Never played, but always looked like Peanuts the JRPG, with sci-fi/fantasy elements.  Why hasn't there been a good Peanuts game by the way? Has there been a game at all?

I binged watched the latter half of season 3 and all of season 4 recently, since season 5 is coming up. I fell off of watching TV shows a couple years ago, so I needed to catch up.  It's a large time investment.  But this shows is immensely gripping. I'm addicted again.

Never played this one. I had a Genesis anyway, which had World of Illusion, Fantasia, Quackshot, Aladdin, Castle of Illusion. But all the Disney games from the 16 bit era are beautiful if nothing else.

Gauntlet and Shadowgate were definitly my jams. Especially Gauntlet 4, which has an extra story mode. And the music is sublime, done by the same composer as Final Fantasy Tactics, Vagrant Story, Odin Sphere, and many more. Shadowgate was one of my favorites on the NES, my favorite version of the game with some really catchy and atmospheric music that I remember to this day.
