Interesting. Didn't know there were so many game-based books. I'd prefer to read more about the Denton brothers and UNATCO. i wonder if books based on the first two games exist.
At the time it was too basic and straightforward of a platformer compared to where Super Mario had gone by then, so I wasn't a fan. But years later I gained an appreciation for focused, elegant game design, and this definitely has that.
That's a list of practically of all the old games I didn't play, lol. Played Dragon's Lair, who didn't? Xevious, and Wizardry. The first Wizardry still holds up, the design-wise at least (there are updated versions with better graphics, which I recommend). It's a simple, elegant structure. They knew exactly what they wanted it to be and what parts of the pen and paper RPG experience would translate well at the time. Unfortunately it doesn't get recognized by the wider audience as one of the essential classics, like Doom and Super Mario. But it is. It laid the foundation for video game RPGs, for better or worse (it basically brought the concept of grinding encounters for xp to the genre, something that wasn't part of its tabletop origins)
TO all the way. Hate Xenogears. Trails is good but I prefer tactical games these days.
The Cemetary is right north of town. I believe you are told this, but I thought there was a quest marker too.
I won't disagree with anyone that says ALTTP is a GOAT game, but i prefer my LoZs to take place in worlds of desolation. This one was too colorful and populated by NPCs to really speak to me.
Super Metroid is a GOAT. Nuff said
Same with SMB3, still my favorite Mario game.
Hell, same with New Vegas. It's the best mainstream WRPG released in recent times, imo. None of them beat the quest design and all the solutions and outcomes and how different quests across the world intersect in small and big ways
Not a huge Mega Man fan, but I'd pick 3 if I was forced to play one now. Just the sweet spot of classic Mega Man games.
Fallout 2 is the very definition of PC exclusive. I don't know how they would make the interface and control work on a joypad, but I suppose it's possible. Yes read a walkthrough that breaks down the quest strings at least. They are insane like New Vegas.
The first half of the game is far better than the last third. You're not missing anything outside of access to higher level grinding areas to level up for the toughest hunts
Oh yeah, these kinds of games are my thing. FFT is one of my GOAT games. I play more tactics games on PC though, as there seem to be a lot more of them. I'm trying out Heroes of Might and Magic 3 currently. Ever played those?
Nah I don't think you've blown it. There's no ultimatum with this thing, no one's getting paid for this, or signed a contract. Do what you can, when you can, that's what I say.
