Deadlight Review

Posted on 01/03/2014 at 01:57 AM | Filed Under Review

"Yes, we’re all sick of the shambling undead" ... this review knows what's up. Don't worry, I never so much as tried a demo, and didn't let that scare me off from spending expendable income on something that wasn't my crippling debt. Laughing Better yet, it takes place in 80s Seattle? I'm down. I love rain and the idea of the 80s. Plus it has a dark art syle, like those Dark Knight comics I keep hearing about? Keeps getting better.

I don't like that you have a limited ammo supply, though, as I kind of wanted to treat this like Contra. Guess I should have taken the hint when the trailer showed mostly single shotgun rounds being fired, but I can live with it. Hell, puzzle platformer is a mix of two things I'm really into lately. Better watch what you call  niggle, though. That could land you in trouble.

It sucks to hear about the deterioration of control (I'm guessing this involved a helicopter, as you mentioned in your comment on my blog) towards the end, and I absolutely will not get over how stale zombies are, but I am looking forward to playing this.

Oh shit, I think I have that.

On a serious note, if Pixlbit earns money by way of CTR, I will gladly start clicking some ads.

Glad you liked Deadlight, but I'm also not liking this "story about zombies" talk. The atmosphere I think I'll enjoy though, based on trailers. I'll check out your review.

If you mean installing it from your disc to your Steam account, I get that, but I honestly don't understand when people buy copies of games they already own physically through Steam. Do you? Or is that what you're doing? I'm just curious why people do it, not judging. If it's just to have an extra copy that won't get scratched, I get it, it's just not something I'd do.

Speaking of Fez, how is Braid? I noticed you play it a couple times, but it was the one game from Indie Game: The Movie I wasn't itching to get. I think it looks like it has a good story, art style, and the time mechanic looks fun (I love Prince of Persia: Sands of Time), but I don't know, something just doesn't click with me when I see it. If there's a demo and I didn't notice, I may download the demo.

I'm excited to play Psychonauts, I've been wanting to get my hands on it forever.

I didn't see anyone's recent activity but whatsacow's for some reason. His avatar always pops up several times when I play Arkham Asylum. I should play Borderlands or 2 some time to see what the fuss is about. Dishonored looks like my kind of game. I noticed FFVII was on sale at one point, and was tempted to but it just so I could have the most famous JRPG as far as I know, but decided against it, since I don't actually like JRPGs most of the time. Never heard of Bunny Must Die, Skullgirls, or Dear Esther, but those all sound pretty great to me. I might look up some trailers and demos if I remember.

It's great, but all the same, I would never buy anything at full price if I had to authenticate an account to use it. In my eyes, there are a lot of benefits and downsides as well, but I had a gift card, so this happened. lol

That's interesting, cause while I was shopping, I had it in my head that people disliked 2. I'd have bought the $15 pack for Bioshock instead of the GTA pack if my PC could run Infinite at recommended CPU setting, which according to my own observation about my system specs and a second opinion from systemrequirementslab.com, it could not.

Hadn't heard of Gunpoint. I think these are the last games I buy for a while, because I went a little nuts on my first run-in with Steam and I know it, plus I have to play all these now, but if I see Gunpoint on sale in future, I'll remember your recommendation. What type of game is it?

I agree with everything you said about Iron Man 3, except for the plot. I just don't dig Super Soldier Serum-induced bad guys at this point. I did like the movie, and I can see why it's your favorite, but for me it's 1, then 3, then 2 in terms of how much I like each one.

I'm honestly not sure I was able to pay much attention to the finer details about MoS, but on the bright side, he never has to wear a condom now, assuming his partner is "clean." He really is a Superman ... lucky fucking ... anyway, I liked the action scenes/SFX in MoS quie a bit, they really did get my adrenaline going. I actually drove a bit too fast on my way out. The acting wasn't bad, it just felt flat to me, minus Zod's awesome scenery chewing. If there's one thing I seem to enjoy consistently in new Superman movies, it's over-the-top bad guys. I ... really did not feel Henry Cavill was Superman, more like an alien with a really dark blue suit, but that was not Cavill's fault, I just didn't like the way Superman was written in this.

I really do need to see Gravity. I'll catch it on Red Box. In fact, I just got The World's End on Red Box to catch what I missed right now. lolAnd Catching Fire was a great movie, but I think the second part of the Hunger Games trilogy may be my least favorite. I can definitly see why you have it as your number 2, though.

If I had to rank the movies you're wanting to see in order, I'd say Into Darkness, Desolation of Smaug and The World's End (finished watching just now) are about equal, then Pacific Rim, then The Wolverine. Mileage may vary.

December 2013 Recap

Everything you said about Gravity makes me want it so much. I've only played Killzone 2 I think (maybe 3, whichever one where the character was a midget), but I enjoyed the hell out of what I played, especially the nail gun. That's awesome that you got it for $5. I've only played a GoW once as well, but sadly, I don' think I used th chainsaw. Or maybe I forgot I did.

Your wife sounds like a super lady.

I would guess Vice City might end up being my favorite as well, but San Andreas has a lot going on in it, so we'll see. Maybe III or IV will even end up being favorites.

I didn't know about Humble Bundle sales, thank you. And yeah, pretty much everything I bought is still on sale, I just tended to wait until the daily deals cut the prices even lower.

I might have to wait for Ultra even once it comes out though, depending on price. This Steam sale was a god-send, cause no way was I getting this far back into gaming otherwise. I mean I have enough in my accounts, but I have to pay for living and student loans first. lol
