My 1970s Gaming

Posted on 08/31/2019 at 06:26 PM | Filed Under Blogs

My uncle and his wife got Pong as a wedding gift, it really wasn't their thing. They'd hook it up when we kids would come over, but we always got bored pretty quickly with it and ended up outside. I was living in Europe when the Atari came out over here, and we never got one, but I did like to play arcade games when we'd visit my uncle in Boston. The pizza placedown the street from him had Space Invaders and a pinball machine.

I check out your reviews after I see what you've been playing on PS4. Thanks for the heads up on Solo, as I'm not really a box puzzle fan.

Those three games have remained consistently in my top ten since they were released. Play them in order, as they get increasingly more difficult, and it helps if you've gotten used to how to swap weapons and gadgets and how the controls work in a slightly easier setting.

Liked that game so much that if I had a Switch, I'd buy the game and play it all over again.

I'm laid off from the park in the winter, so I usually just play in the woods behind the house. I didn't get much snowshoeing in last winter because it was mostly ice, which made the first two races like running on concrete. The third race, which is the longest and the one with the most elevation, was actually the easiest race this year because there was actually snow to run on.

Late to the Party: Ratchet & Clank remake

The game wasn't bad, it just wasn't as good as the original three on the PS2. The levels weren't as long, not as much to do, and once you finished a level, most of the enemies and crates didn't respawn on revisits, so really hard to upgrade the weapons and collect bolts to buy new stuff. If I had never played the originals, I wouldn't be as disappointed with this remake.

I'd go with the PS3 HD remakes. All on one disk, no memory cards, and they look great. Plus, you get both skill points and trophies!

I shudder to think what this may entail. I'll just go back and play the old ones.

I wrote this back in April, but forgot to post it "Live".

And you can come visit sometime in the winter and I'll take you out on the trails.
