October Gaming

Posted on 10/06/2016 at 10:34 AM | Filed Under Blogs

I have a copy of Zero Escape for 3DS, but haven't started it yet. :(

I've always wanted to take part in Extra Life. I won't be able to this year, though, because I work weekends right now. I'd like to stream out Valkyria Chronicles, Nights of Azure, or a fighting game. What games are you playing.

I need to get this game. I have the PS1 version but it doesn't look this nice.

I'd probably get Fancy Cats if Erin had actually been involved in it.

Episode 96: PlayStation Pub Crawl

For me, the real launch date of the PS1 was September 7, 1997. I was totally uninterested in PS1 until Final Fantasy VII came out. It also opened the RPG floodgates for other games like Xenogears, Lunar 1 and 2, Tales, and of course FF8, FF9, and FF Tactics. I was in heaven. I got a few non-RPGs like Resident Evil and Tekken 3, but otherwise my PS1 was a RPG machine through and through.

From Game Boy to DS: Nintendo Loves to Keep Us Entertained

I grew up on Atari and Nintendo. I got the Game Boy for Christmas the year it came out in 1989, only I was 11 years old (almost 12). For my 12th birthday two weeks later I got the rechargeable battery pack which was nearly as big as the Game Boy itself. One of my favorite old school Game Boy games was Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters, which was better than the NES game. I later got a GBC, a GBA, a DS, and a 3DS. Besides the Zelda and Pokemon games, one thing I enjoy about Nintendo's handhelds are the Dragon Quest games that were ported to the GBC and DS.

Final Fantasy XV: I Want to Believe

I'm looking forward to FFXV more and more. I was concerned about it for awhile myself, given Square Enix's problems with FFXIII (which I enjoyed) and FF Versus/XV itself. And Square Enix's weak console showing on PS3/Xbox 360/Wii. Most of what was enjoyable from them was stuck on DS or PSP.

That said, they've done quite a nice turnaround on PS4, though they still have a ways to go before they catch up to the days of Final Fantasy XII and Dragon Quest VIII. Two of my favorite games of last year were Square Enix titles, Final Fantasy Type-0 and Dragon Quest Heroes. And everything I've seen on FFXV looks and plays great. Can't wait for November.

FF Type-0 was really good. I loved it. And I like what I've seen of FFXV. Can't wait.

Captain N's thoughts on the Nintendo NX

If it works as both a handheld and a console and the games don't take a hit in quality, I'm sold on it. Especially if Breath of the Wild is a launch title. Throw Dragon Quest XI on top of that and it will sweeten the deal.

The PS4 Slim is Out There

I'm sticking with my PS4 for now. If I get a new one it will be a Neo.

I'll probably try PSVR, especially if it comes down in price a bit and there are games that interest me on it, which means I want something other than EA or Activision first-person shooters.

Blech, management change. Those always fill me with trepidation. Even when the outgoing manager sucked, at least you generally knew where you stood with them, and it was basically the devil you know versus one you don't know.

I might download Peggle at some point. I like the odd pick-up-and-play game like that, though I prefer old arcade classics and abhor what passes for gaming on iOS and Android.

I have the Pac-Man fever vinyl album, too, but I'm thinking of downloading it onto my phone so I can listen to it in my car during those long drives down I-95 and on the Beltway.
