I seriously considering upgrading my iPod touch to the latest gen model. Then I can play Civ Rev 2 and I just noticed Broken Age Act I was ported to iOS as well.

Awesome! "Abandon all hope, ye who enter Demon's Souls." But seriously, it's fun. 

I've already noticed some slowdown in Wolfenstein: New Order and a full system crash in LEGO: The Hobbit on last gen systems. I think they probably built them for next gen and then adjusted them down for last gen, not always successfully.

I think it was the opposite case last gen when Xbox/PS2 games were made and then barely improved versions were ported to X360/PS3 a year later. Devs are ahead of the game this time.

Some notes I took on reading your awesome article:

Cutscenes, taking away your weapons, and adding puzzle or stealth levels
ruins the pace of a good FPS.
These features are nice but I like to play non stop action.

Borderlands has too many samey weapons.
Old school shooters have just the right amount
and they're all very different.

Wanting to put hoards of enemies on the screen,
modern games end up with all the same type to simplify design.
 
Modern games try to be accessible to everyone
and so dumb down the level design
so even a baby can negotiate it.

After several years of podcast listening, and now a large list of podcasts to listen to each week, I'm starting to really appreciate the shorter ones because there's just not enough time to get to everything. If I ever did a podcast I would have it no more than an hour and possibly shorter, like 45 minutes. Big Red Barrel's podcasts are kept strictly at 45 min and it feels just right.

Oh ok. Maybe I'll do that tonight or early on Sunday.

Ha ha! I might visit him there sometime, if he goes, but I would probably not live there. Unless there was some job opportunity.

Neato! The musical progress is just like my day: waking up, active day, chill late night, and sleep.

Well, Final Fantasy VII was on my radar recently.
