Forgotten Gaming Mascots #2: Dizzy

Posted on 02/02/2021 at 09:01 PM | Filed Under Blogs

As a kid, I remember the local game rental store had a couple of NES Dizzy games unlicensed by Nintendo for rent.  I also remember reading that Dizzy was more popular in Europe.  But yeah, I've never played a Dizzy game.  They sound frustrating, though.

Valentine Reviews!

Chun-Li totally deserves a valentine.  My favorite Street Fighter female character is Cammy, but Chun-Li is still pretty cool.

BaD #2: Battle Shark

I kind of remember this one, but I think I passed up on it in the arcades.  Too many other things to spend my quarters on.

Captain N's Games of the Decade: Expansion Pass #29

I never got a chance to play this one.  I'd like to, since I heard it was good.

Yeah I've always wondered why Sonic the Hedgehog hasn't done any promos with Sonic the restaurant.  They even serve chili dogs for crying out loud!  At this time last year when the live action Sonic movie was out, Arby's did a kids meal promo with Sonic.

Speaking of which, in February Burger King is having Nintendo toys in their kids meals.  And it's not just Mario ones either!  They have toys based on Luigi's Mansion, Mario Maker 2, Splatoon, and others.  I really want to get the Link's Awakening and Animal Crossing toys!

BaD 1: Sakura Wars: So Long My Love

Posted on 02/02/2021 at 08:11 AM | Filed Under Blogs

I reviewed that Sakura Wars way back when.  It's a quality game, but I'm not into strategy RPGs or dating sims.  My favorite character in it was a red haired lady that I THINK was named Gemini Sunrise or something like that.  She was from Texas, so you know she had to be cool since people from Texas are cool.  :)  In the game, she also tried to sneak her horse in her apartment, which I thought was hilarious.  So that was the character I tried to be friendly with in the game.  That's all I remember about it, though, so let me know if there are any other cool characters in it I forgot.

BaD One

Sunshine has a lot of good ideas and I like the vacation theme.  But I still enjoyed Mario 64 more.  A lot less frustrating and the controls aren't as fussy.  That's what I found when I replayed them on Mario 3-D All-Stars.  Galaxy is my second favorite, though.

BaD #1: January 2021 Recap and BaD Introduction

Posted on 02/02/2021 at 08:05 AM | Filed Under Blogs

Gunbird 1 and 2 are fun little shooters.  The third game in the series, which is on that collection, is actually a BreakOut style game!

Wait, you got a physical version of Mighty Gunvolt Burst?  Did I read that right?

Ys 8 was a lot of fun.  Not as good as Ys 7, but I still had a lot of fun with it.  My brother called it "Jurassic Park: The JRPG."  I can't wait for Ys 9, which comes out soon!

I love the Taito Legends games!  I miss when companies would make arcade collections and put tons of games on them, even obscure ones!

Playing The Same...Why Is Solitaire So Addictive?

I hope someday you get a chance to break out the ol' 3DS and see if you can still download Pocket Card Jockey.  Such an addictive game!

Forgotten Gaming Mascots #1: Opa-Opa

Posted on 02/02/2021 at 07:58 AM | Filed Under Blogs

I have a little Opa Opa figurine on my desk.  I like the fact that Opa Opa was a bonus icon you could collect in classic SEGA games like Zillion.  Did you know that Fantasy Zone and Space Harrier are set in the same universe?  That's why you see Opa Opa in Planet Harriers.  Did you ever play Sonic and SEGA All-Stars Racing?  Opa Opa was playable in that one.  Also in Project X-Zone, my pretend girlfriend Ulala from Space Channel 5 uses Opa Opa as an attack.

BaD: A Dedication

Aw well, thank you!  My mom is recovering great from her first surgery.  The first week was rough, but it was better the second week.  Which is good since that was the week I took off work to take care of her!  So I had it easy!  So they still found some cancer lingering but they are going to do one more surgery next week to remove some lymph nodes, and if that takes care of it, she won't have to do radiation and chemo.  I know it's not good to take out lymph nodes, but it's not like they're going to take out all of them.  We just don't want her to have to do radiation and stuff.  When I do another review blog in the middle of BaD, I'll try to update you all further.  In the meantime, just keep praying for us please!  Thanks.
