My Media Scrapbook: 2016

I'm glad I'm full time, but in a couple of years I'm either going to have to get a better paying job or live in an apartment with a bunch of roommates.  Either that or move out to the country with relatives, and that's not going to happen.  How do people afford houses nowadays?

I wish I could take screen caps of the Mario Kart game on my Switch, but the game wouldn't let me.  Probably because Nintendo doesn't want people taking pictures of their actual houses and such.

I don't find too many people who enjoyed Super Paper Mario as much as I did!

2016 was rough for me, too.  Both gaming and personally.  I know the Switch was set to come out the next year in 2017, but boy did Nintendo abandon the Wii U awfully early.  The only notable games on it that year were an HD remake of Twilight Princess and a Pokemon 3-D fighter made by Namco, creators of Tekken (that's why it was called Pokken Tournament).  Nintendo's 'swan song' for the Wii U was supposed to be Star Fox Zero, but that turned out to be one of their worst games ever, in my opinion.  It was so bad that I ended up getting a PS4 by the end of the year (well, also mainly because I found it on a Black Friday sale), and my GOTY for that year was World of Final Fantasy.  And that wasn't even THAT great of a game!

I had lost my last job late the year before, so I spent the first half of 2016 looking for a new job.  And I HATE looking for jobs.  That's why I try to stay at a job as long as I can, even if I should move on.  And when I finally got a job, it was only part time and I didn't like it.  Huge pay cut, too.  Sadly, I'm still there, but at least I'm full time now and it is better than it was then.  Still goes to show you that not everything is a fairy tale and dreams don't always come true and not everyone gets to do what they want to do in life.

I reviewed the remaster of Romancing SaGa 2 a couple of years ago.  Whew, I can see now why these never made it to the US!  Although in December we are getting a collection of the first three SaGa games on the Game Boy.  Those came out to the US as the Final Fantasy Legend series.

Aside from things I'm reviewing and of course, Animal Crossing, I just picked up the Luigi version of Mario Kart Live: Home Circut.  It's an RC car you control with the Switch and play a game of Mario Kart with it using augmented reality.  It's pretty neat and I'll be talking about it more at GamerDad.com closer to Christmas.

My Media Scrapbook: 2015

2015 was probably the Wii U's best year.  We had innovative titles like Super Mario Maker and Splatoon (which was my GOTY for 2015), and even games like Yoshi's Woolly World almost captured the magic of the original Yoshi's Island game.

Unfortunately, at the tail end of 2015, I had to quit my job.  I was kind of forced to because of my disability, and I suspect they planned that so they could hire new people at less pay.  But there was no way for me to prove that, so I had to chalk it up as a bit L.  It just caused the next year 2016 to be one of my worst years in a long time.  But we'll get to that when you do your 2016 blog. 2015 was also a little bad for me family-wise, and I'm still having to deal with stuff from that, but I won't go into that here.

I had the original NES Golf game.  It's one of the few NES games I could get my dad to play.  Satoru Iwata (R.I.P.), former president of Nintendo, developed NES Golf.

Bowser's Inside Story is the best Mario & Luigi game.  In fact, I'd say it's probably the second best Mario RPG ever, only right behind Thousand Year Door.

Yeah I have pretty 'low def' eyes, so I really can't tell much difference in 4K stuff and whatever.

I can't decide which Mario & Luigi game is the easiest.  I would say the first one, but the last boss is very hard.  Partners in Time had you keeping track of four buttons instead of two, since you controlled both Mario & Luigi and the babies, and I always had a hard time with that.  But I've beaten all the Mario & Luigi games except for Dream Team, because that one just got too long and meandering and boss battles took my whole entire lunch hour to beat!  Way too long for bosses, I think.
